Students in national reading challenge

-

Pea Ridge Intermediate students are reading at home, in the library and in their classrooms preparing to take part in “Read the Most from Coast to Coast,” March 2, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Students will participate in a reading “lock-in” on Friday and may wear their favorite pajamas to school to get comfortable for the day of reading.

“Read the Most from Coast to Coast,” a national reading event set for March 2, challenges students to shatter the national oneday record for Accelerated Reader Quiz-taking. This software program used in schools helps educators measure and improve reading comprehension levels.

“Students read a book at the appropriate level and then take a quiz on a computer,” said Dedy Brock, media specialist. “The quiz assesses general comprehension of the book just read. Accelerated Reader scores the quiz, monitors results, generates reports and provides a platform to manage individual reading practice.”

Read the Most from Coast to Coast enables the students to take part in a shared reading adventure. All students who take part in this nationwide challenge will be eligible to receive a Certificate of National Participation. The one-day record for Accelerated Reader Quiz-taking is well above two million quizzes. On March 2, see the progress toward the national goal at www.renlearn.com/ read the most.
