Nursing program expands

NEOSHO, Mo. — Missouri’s community colleges and Linn State Technical College received a $20 million grant to train an estimated 4,600 workers in the health services/health sciences industry. The grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor, will bring the state’s public two-year institutions together to improve the way they educate adult learners.

The Mohealthwins project will help Crowder College fund the growing demand for registered nurses in our area. Crowder College will expand their Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program to Mcdonald County beginning August 20, 2012. The 50 student expansion will begin with 25 students in year one (graduating in May 2014) and 25 additional students beginning in August 2013.

Since the beginning of the Crowder College ADN program in 1987, 915 graduates have averaged a 92 percent NCLEX first time pass rate. Crowder College currently supports nursing programs in three locations: Neosho, Cassville and Nevada.

Several pre-requisites, including a certified nurse assistant (CNA) certificate, are required to begin the program. CNA courses will be offered during June – July to meet this requirement. Credit will be awarded to program candidates for existing CNA credentials.
