Meadowbrook Home Extension Club
The New Meadowbrook Home Extension Club met for the monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the First Baptist Church in Garfield.
The meeting was brought to order by president Selena Williams, with all members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. She then gave the devotion of Ecclesiastes 1-11 that being rich does not bring happiness and satisfaction, but to allow God into one’s life, then one will have peace and happiness.
Members answered roll call with “What spring flower they love,” after which minutes were read by Ione Kauffeld, secretary, and Rheta Van Doren, treasurer, gave her report.
An update on all the associations in the community which the club supports, stating that members are to take cupcakes to be served at the spaghetti dinner that will be served by NEBCO Fire and Ambulance Service on April 27, between 4 - 7 p.m.
Also, God’s Pantry is open from 1 - 5 p.m. on Thursday and now has a Thrift Store, plus a storage unit that they are renting out. They had an Open House at their newlyopened facility Sunday, April 15.
Discussion was held and voted on as to what the club plans to do for the residents at Autumn Place in Pea Ridge for this next Christmas. Members will work on projects at their workday on Wednesday, April 25, starting at l0 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, and to bring a sack lunch and any fabric that they might have to use.
The County Spring Council meeting will be held at the Bentonville Church of Christ at 9:30 a.m. April 27. It is the 100th year celebration for the Home Extension Clubs so clubs are to decorate their table with a “birthday” theme, each to bring a salad, and also paper products to be collected for “Saving Grace.” Also, clubs are encouraged to bring pictures and items that they have had as projects over the years.
Leaann Schalk served delicious Povatica and coffee, after which Roxie Geddie, who is also a master gardener, gave a very interesting lesson on building raised bed gardens, what type of soil and filling to use and had handouts on the subject.
