Library book sales going well

- PEGGY MADDOX

Hope everyone had a chance to get out and do some shopping at the City Wide Garage Sales over the weekend. The library did well with our books at Camp’s Swap Meet. I met some very nice people and was able to visit with some people I had not seen in a while. I owe a large debt of gratitude to Dottie Adriano for helping me load the boxes of books on Thursday; and to Cinda Wooldridge for manning the library while Dottie and I were having such a good time! Thanks to Sandy Hedlund and her son, Spencer, for packing the unsold books, loading them and then unloading them again at the library. I could not have done this without these friends. I don’t even know how to thank Derry and Sharon Camp for all their support for the library. You two go above and beyond and I appreciate it and love you for it! The library personnel thank everyone who donates books and supports the sales. You are the lifeblood of the library.

We hope to have another sale on Mule Jump Saturday — Oct. 13. But, I think this one will be a Sidewalk Sale in front of the current library. Carrying heavy boxes of books is just too hard on everyone’s back, etc.

Work on the new building is progressing at a steady pace. Should soon begin the electrical work and hopefully after that the plumbing. Tony Townsend is doing a won- derful job in procuring the materials and finding the right people for the jobs. The members of the Library Board is grateful for all he does for us. We are still looking at a move in date of early 2013. While I am anxious to get in the building, I must admit I am not looking forward to the actual move!

I think I have mentioned before that we are purging the shelves of books that have not been checked out in the past six years. If you have a favorite author and would like to own a book or two or more of theirs, check with me to see what we might have to sell. Might be nice to have a few books on hand to read this winter.

The Story Hour last week went well. There is still room for more children. Ms. Peggy works hard to find stories and crafts that all the children will enjoy. The sound of happy children sure makes the library come alive!

We received two large donations of paperbacks last week — romance and Sci-Fi/ fantasy. Some of those will make their way on the shelves this week, but others are available for sale.

As you start begin cleaning out your house and garage this week for the city wide clean-up, remember the library. Not only for those books and magazines you no longer want, but also for any old items we might be able to sell on line to raise funds for the library. Old paper items such as calendars, advertising items, old pens and pencils — especially those with advertising on them, maps from those car trips you mad with the kids in ’50’s, etc. We have been able to sell a number of donated items — not just books. Call the library at 451-8442 if you have items we might be able to sell or use in our new home.

Again, the members of the Library Board and I thank you all for all you do to support us and the library. Without you I would not have the best job in the world!
