John L. Wells, manager of Pea Ridge Phillips Food centers, was named merchandis­ing manager for three Phillips Food Centers. Succeeding Wells as Pea Ridge manager was Dale Musteen.

Approximat­ely 30 businesses had paid their 1973 membership dues to the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce.

John Knox, park technician at the Pea Ridge National Military Park, was among the class who graduated from the Basic Police Training Course at the Arkansas Law Enforcemen­t Training Academy in East Camden, Ark.

The Night Circle of the Pea Ridge United Methodist Women met at the home of Midge Elington. Others present at the meeting included Mary Jane Jarecki, Mabel Hardy, Wanda Roe, Olivia Miser, Betty Greene, Mildred Walker and new member, Mrs. John Wells.

Dr. James C. Carlton was selected as the new superinten­dent for Pea Ridge School District 109.

L.C. Barnett Jr. of Gateway was elected permanent pastor of Gateway Chapel. Barnett replaced Jack Glaze, who accepted a pastorate in Clarksvill­e.

Pea Ridge seventh-grade girls basketball team included Kari Aubrey, Gina Howell, Lori Cheek, Tina O’Dell, Shelly Larson, Juli Paukune, Tanya Wilkins, Anita Anderson, Margaret Gonce, Dawna Patterson and Kelly Parker.

“It was an interestin­g, wonderful and inspiratio­nal experience,” was the way a trip to Belize, British Honduras, was described by John Shasteen, owner of Pea Ridge Outlet, to members of the Pea Ridge Christian Men’s Fellowship.

December star students at Pea Ridge Elementary School were: kindergart­en and first grade — Kyle Oliver, Daniel Easter, Julie Fletcher, Ashley Woodward, Sabrina Butcher, Cody Mabry, Becky Kopejtka and Caila Fletcher; second, third and fourth grade — Allen McBurnett, Kayla Colsden, John Shockley Kenon Bruce, Martha Pruitt, Robert Christense­n, Chris Keck, Tessa Michelson and Laurie Fowler; fifth and sixth grade — Marie Floyd, Kenny Baumgarten, Rebecca Bartlett, Jerry Corshia, Jennifer Orton and David Forand.

Bonnie Mizener of Pea Ridge was among leaders from Benton County to attend the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Associatio­n Leadership Developmen­t Conference in Little Rock.

It was announced that about 300 acres of Pea Ridge National Military Park would be intentiona­lly burned during the weeks ahead to encourage the growth of hardwood trees.

State Senator Dave Bis- bee told a group of Pea Ridge parents, students, faculty, administra­tion and School Board members that Pea Ridge High School would not be dissolved.

Pam Cecil and Melissa Guess opened Visions Hair Salon in the corner store west of Easley’s Ace Hardware.

Darla Nix leased the NWA Speedway from Gary Wilbur and would resume car races.

Members of the PRJHS Quiz Bowl Team, which took first place in the District AA quiz bowl competitio­n, were Ashley Martfeld, Alex Martfeld, Caleb Duvall, Jesse Harness, Lauren Littrell and Dillon Blankenshi­p. The team was coached by Michelle Wallis.
