The Pea Ridge School Board met and established a policy on mandatory retirement for teachers, set up meetings for conferences with a number of architects wishing to plan the proposed new gym complex and spent nearly two hours making what turned out to be a split-decision on a request from the junior class to hold the Junior/Senior Prom off campus at Hickory Creek Country Club.
Billy Sisco, owner of the Sisco Funeral Home of Pea Ridge, announced that he was being joined in operating the funeral home by his son-in-law, Sammy Spivey.
Wiley and Exa Williams Jones of Garfield celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Approval for the construction of a new convenience store, including gas, was given to Jan Chambers by the Avoca town council. The store was proposed to be located at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 62 and Benton County Road 74.
Mitchell Webb, Pea Ridge, was one of four new justices of the peace of Benton County that would discuss their duties and answer questions at a meeting of the Democratic Club of Benton County.
Christian portrait artist, poet, writer and teacher Margaret Stucki transformed the sanctuary of a chapel, located just off the highway in Avoca, into an art gallery, studio and museum.
Airman Michele G. Talburt, daughter of Michael and Bonnie Tyler, Pea Ridge, was assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., after completing Air Force basic training.

Star kindergarten and first grade students for January at Pea Ridge Elementary School were Brad Apel, Katie Nell, Savannah Schwitters, Shea Speer, Abby Elington, Jessica Schwyhart, Jacob Flower and Otis Garner.
Second, third and fourth grade star students for January at Pea Ridge Elementary School were Amanda Jones, Amber Coulsdon, Melanie Roller, Kari Fletcher, Stefanie Harris, Jack Slyter, Jamie Lingar, Keith Wiltgen and Susan Didion.

With a motion from Councilman John Erwin, and a 4-0 vote, the city took its first steps on the long road toward beautification and long-range planning projects — purchasing trees and planters — at the city council meeting.
The Pea Ridge Parks/Recreation Commission voted on officers. Elected were Terry Liddell, chairman; Joe Bangs, vice chairman; and Diana Smith, secretary/treasurer.
J.D. Peronia, an eighthgrader at Pea Ridge Middle School, was the overall winner with the most points at the PRMS Science Fair. His project was titled, “The Effects of Caffeine on Heart Rate and Blood Pressure.”
Amy Logan was the high seller in the annual FFA meat sale. She grossed $2,500 in sales.
