Caring staffs anchor Bella Vista assisted-living facilities

BELLA VISTA — Residents living independently at Concordia Retirement Community can make an easy transition to assisted living with two such facilities located on site.

Concordia Catered Assisted Living and Concordia Arms Assisted Living provide each resident with a private apartment, three home-style meals a day and transportation to doctor’s appointments, along with medication reminders, bathing, grooming, dressing, housekeeping and laundry.

Ane Burks, administrator of Concordia Catered Assisted Living, said her staff is extremely caring and professional.

“Sure, there are newer buildings than Concordia, but I can promise they don’t have the staff I do,” she said. “I have had employees do extra things for our residents on their own time.”

Once a month, residents can voice their concerns or suggestions during resident council meetings.

“This is their home and we want them to be involved,” said Janice Coberly, administrator of Concordia Arms. “For instance, a lot of residents wanted pancakes to be offered at breakfast, so now they are.”

Each building has a small group of residents with a dedicated cook, housekeeper, activities director, administrator and personal-care assistants. There is always at least one personal-care assistant in each building.

Activities include exercise sessions, bingo and outings to different locations.

Coberly said residents especially enjoy when groups come to sing for them. Recently, a local group — The Heartbeats — sang for Valentine’s Day.

In addition to planned activities, many residents enjoy spending time with their friends and families outside of Concordia.

“We aren’t on lockdown — residents can go spend the night with their families if they want. We just ask they sign out,” Burks said.

Concordia makes a point to be upfront and open about its cost, said Linda Woollett, marketing director.

“We are all inclusive,” she said. “For a set price, you get everything you need — no hidden fees.”

Both assisted-living homes passed a state audit with zero deficiencies in early February, meaning all rigorous state standards have been upheld.
