A delegation of Little Flock residents, headed by Mayor Evered Pointer, met with the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce and expressed the desire to join and work with the local C of C for the betterment of both communitie­s.

Recipients of the L.W. Hyer Scholarshi­p awards at The School of the Ozarks for the spring semester include Bryan McBride, son of Ted and Bertha McBride of Seligman, Mo.

The Garfield City Council, upon motion by Ed Fowler, voted four to one to allow City Clerk Jane Davis to present detailed written financial reports only once a quarter, giving oral balances on hand each month.

At a Founders Day Program held in February by the Garfield PTA, the following past presidents of the PTA were honored: Mrs. S.J. Dye, Mrs. Howard Ross, Mrs. Jack Holt, Mrs. Pat Ellis, Mrs. Burrell Weston, Mrs. Herbert Gauwain, Mrs. Bill Schnitzer and Mrs. Jerry Roberts.

The Pea Ridge Fire Department reported four grass fires in the past week. Little Flock, NEBCO and Avoca reported no fires.

A number of contractor­s had indicated interest in building the Gateway Rural Water Associatio­n project, President Bill Schnitzer said.

Treasurer Bill Abrams reported to the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County he had received $1,255 in contributi­ons.

It was announced that the perimeter of the Pea Ridge City Park would be fenced.

The first annual Junior High Athletic Banquet was held at Pea Ridge in the school cafeteria. The young athletes received recognitio­n from the coaches for the talents they had each exhibited during the season.

Former state legislator David Matthews of Rogers was announced to be the speaker at the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce annual banquet.

At a special meeting, the Pea Ridge School Board rescinded Porky & Sons Constructi­on’s bid for classroom additions to the elementary-middle school. The reason for this decision was based on the fact that an electrical subcontrac­tor chosen by Porky & Son Constructi­on was not properly licensed by the state.

Clifford Wood and Tina Poindexter were named as 1993 All-Region Tournament Team members.

Marvin Higginbott­om, former Pea Ridge superinten­dent of schools, was unanimousl­y voted on to become the interim superinten­dent of Pea Ridge Schools. The superinten­dent position came open with the resignatio­n of first-year superinten­dent Dr. Virgil Freeman, who resigned for personal reasons.

A Pea Ridge man donated $700 for a bulletproo­f vest for Bentonvill­e police dog.

John Lasater, president of Arvest Bank, Pea Ridge, announced the winners of the first annual Valentine’s Day drawing. First place in the overall drawing went to Betty McGarrah, who received a $50 gift certificat­e to Mr. B’s steakhouse in Rogers and two movie tickets. Second place was awarded to Colleen Rhuda, who won a $30 gift certificat­e to Johnny Carino’s in Rogers. Angie David won the third place prize of two movie tickets.
