Meeting in the third special meeting in a month, the Pea Ridge School Board narrowed their choice of architects to design the new Pea Ridge School gym down to two — Perry Butcher of Rogers and Allgier-Barton and Associates of Joplin, Mo.

Pea Ridge Mayor Jack Musteen appointed Lloyd Pifer of Avoca as a new part-time policeman to work four hours each night.

Pea Ridge paint store stock was sold and bought by the new Pea Ridge Hardware and Building Supplies.

Winners of the races at the Pinewood Derby held by Pea Ridge Cub Scouts were Andy Fletcher, first; Wesley Sherman, second; and Howey Ricketts, third. Winners in the best constructe­d cars were Dennis Ford, first; Timmy Whisenhunt, second; and Timothy Tope, third.

The Lost Bridge Lodge was closed. According to Paul McKeage, Lost Bridge, he had been authorized by Sherwood Crane, Pine Cone Corp., the lodge owner, that the Lodge had been temporaril­y closed and expected to have it open again, under new management, about the first of May.

Ham and beans meant work for some members of the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department and brought $310 to the AVFD’s building fund during their Ham and Bean Dinner.

Four Pea Ridge basketball players were chosen to the All District Teams: Doyle McBurnett, Brenda Webb, Tony Anderson and

Lisa Webb.

Grand Champion Spring Creek Chief was awarded two large trophies during the National Coon Hunters Associatio­n Treeing Walker Days. The dog was owned and handled by Kevin Bray of Garfield.

Brooke and Jean Batta bought Missouri Package Store in Seligman. The business was purchased from Nancy and Jim Goebel of Pea Ridge.

February Star Students at Pea Ridge Elementary School for kindergart­en and first grades were Michelle Keene, Ryan Barnett, Jeremy Hamilton, Nikki Foster, Terrie Sue Wilkerson, Cody Woodward, Merry Miller and Charli Mars. Star Students in second, third and fourth grades were Crystal White, Michael Lemke, Stephanie Horton, Curtis Abercrombi­e, Elizabeth Miller, Jennifer Jones, Alan Elington, Nick Graham and Jennifer Rhinehart.

The Personnel Policies Committee at Pea Ridge School District presented a proposed salary schedule at the board meeting that would give teachers a minimum raise of $1500.

Oak View Animal Clinic began work on a 2,200 square foot addition to its building on Ark. Hwy. 72 west of Pea Ridge. The new area would allow for separate cat and dog wards and would house a new imaging room for x-rays and ultra-sounds, another surgery room and new lab and treatment area.

Taking first place honors in PRHS’s annual talent show were the band “People vs. People,” including Jerome Todd, Randy Fine, David Burress and Elliott Acosta and a musical/drama troupe consisting of April Davis, Melissa Morris, Shantell Drake and Michele Melton.

Pea Ridge elementary students raised more than $1,500 with a Jump Rope for Heart event.
