Two meetings in the area apparently resulted in the ironing out of details for the establishm­ent of mutual planning boundaries between the cities of Rogers, Bentonvill­e, Pea Ridge, Little Flock and Cave Springs. Planning Commission­s from each town must formally approve the boundaries for that town and then recommend them to their city governing councils for adoption.

Hailstones measuring an average of two inches in diameter fell near the intersecti­on of Arkansas Highway 72 and U.S. Highway 62 east of Pea Ridge.

Ronnie G. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Smith of Pea Ridge, was promoted to sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

Sale items at Phillips Food Center in Pea Ridge included a gallon of milk for 89 cents, five 28 oz. bottles of root beer for $1, and bacon for 89 cents per pound.

Times

Four volunteers who had earned their emergency medical technician­s (EMT) certificat­es and nine graduates of the first responders course sponsored by the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County were honored by the VAS board.

A low bid of $2,181 submitted by Associated Insurance Co., Rogers, was accepted by the Pea Ridge City Council for the city’s insurance coverage at a special meeting called for that purpose.

The request of the Lost Bridge Village residents to post 25 mile per hour speed limits on certain roads in the area was approved by the Quorum Court’s Roads committee.

Helen Walton, Bentonvill­e, who had long been active at local, state and national levels of the Presbyteri­an Church, spoke at the Christian Men’s ladies’ breakfast, held at Mt. Vernon Presbyteri­an Church on Davis Street.

Artwork of PRHS art students Dani Dryden, Deborah Moore and David Milton won in the annual VFW Patriotic Art contest.

Two Pea Ridge men, Joe Hart and Bob DuBois, bought 52 acres on which they planned to convert four turkey houses into the largest covered trade center in Arkansas for individual­s to buy and sell. The property was just west of Patterson Road and over- looked Otter Creek and Patterson Road.

Pea Ridge Mayor Mary Rogers announced that she would like to have the authority back to cancel the first City Council meeting of the month when there was not a lot on the agenda. She said she felt it was an unnecessar­y expense of about $200 a meeting.

Pea Ridge dentist Barry Scott celebrated his 40th birthday at Pizza Hut with employees Susan McQuaid, Kim Fowler, Pam Rupar, Annette Chitty, Freida Crabtree, Deby Humphries and Vikki Price.

The Pea Ridge School Board discussed the 30 applicants for superinten­dent at its meeting. The list included four women, eleven former coaches, five with doctorates in education, two with doctorates in religion and two with PhDs.

Billie Jines, former owner and editor of Pea Ridge’s newspaper and frequent contributo­r to The Times of Northeast Benton County, received the Golden 50 Service Award from the Arkansas Press Associatio­n at a banquet held at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock.

Josh Hall, a seventhgra­der at Pea Ridge Middle School, was among four Benton County students who qualified for the local state geography bee in local competitio­ns.
