Dumpsters will be at the city property behind Village Hardware. All participants need to bring a form of identification and proof of city residency, for example current paid water bill.
Helping Hands will have a truck at the clean up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 12.
There is a maximum of three trips per household.
Items not accepted for disposal include household trash, construction material, anything containing freon or items too large to fit in the dumpster.
BBQ, pie auction
The Pea Ridge High School Alumni Association’s annual pulled pork barbecue dinner and pie auction is set for 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Pea Ridge Middle School cafeteria on Weston Street. This is the annual fundraiser supporting the Alumni Scholarship Program.
The menu includes barbecue pulled pork, prepared by Rheldon Bray, cole slaw, baked beans and tea or coffee. Dinners are $7 for adults and $4 for children from 4 to 10 years old. For dessert, see pie auction.
The Pie Auction will begin at 6 p.m., with Jerry Fitzner as auctioneer. Volunteers are needed to bake pies for the auction. Call Linda Schooley 451-8574 or Nancy Nichols 451-9219 to sign up to make pies. Help is greatly appreciated. The Pie Auction is great fun, with vigorous rivalry in the bidding.
Since its beginning in 2007, the PRHS Alumni Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to members of the graduating classes of Pea Ridge High School, applicable to tuition and books, for the first two semesters at the college or university of the recipient’s choice. With the community’s help and financial support, the Alumni Scholarship Program has grown from offering a single scholarship in 2007, to awarding 10 scholarships in 2012. Alumni Scholarships normally are for $500 per semester, and are renewable for a second semester when a sufficient grade point is achieved on the student’s course work.
Each year on the second weekend of July, the PRHS Alumni Association sponsors Alumni Day, an All-Years Reunion of former students, teachers, administrators and staff of the Pea Ridge Schools. Members of the Association’s Board of Directors are elected at the Reunion, and serve a threeyear term. Current Board officers are Jamie Cotton, Lori Littrell, Sherry Barnett, Penny Schwitters and Jerry Nichols. Other members of the Board include Fayrene Jones, Gwen Edmundson, Marcia Cothran and Linda Schooley.
Currently the Alumni Association is selling Blackhawk chairs, and a Composite Book of the PRHS Graduating Classes from 1946 through 2012. These may be purchased at either Arvest Bank or Community First Bank, the Times office, or Silver Moon Flea Market on West Slack Street.
