Library’s new book drop is ready

- PEGGY MADDOX Pea Ridge Librarian

I am very excited that the new book drop has arrived. The pad was completed on Friday and I am hoping the book drop can be installed early in the week. This will make it so much easier on our patrons to drop off library materials when the library is not open.

We are seeing new patrons each week as well as long-time card holders who have not used their cards in some time. We are so happy to show-off the new library!

Only eight children attended the Story Hour last week. Some of our regulars were on vacation and we look forward to welcoming them back.

In the past two weeks we have received some large donations of children’s books — most in very good condition. We are trying to get them logged into the system and on the shelves. If we expect anyone to continue visiting our library we must have a variety of reading material for them. This is especially important for our young readers. We appreciate all the donations.

While waiting for some great idea for this column to come to me, I was thumbing through a copy of Arkansas Cooking, published in 1975. There are several recipes named for cities and towns in the state. Among them is Pea Ridge Okra Soup which sounds pretty tasty and I am not even an okra fan. Other interesting recipes are Booger Hollow Fresh Apple Cake, Cherokee Village Chocolate Cream Pie, Batesville Baked Pork Chops, Rogers Butterscotch Pie, Hardy Strawberry Cheese Pie and Springdale Chicken Spaghetti. In addition to recipes there are a number of interesting facts about the state of Arkansas. The cookbook will be on display at the library if you want to come by and browse through it.

There will not be a Story Hour on Wednesday, July 24. Story Hour will resume on the July 31 and run through August 14. We would love to have a fall/ winter story hour if anyone wants to volunteer to read and do simple crafts with the kids.

We try to post “library happenings” on Facebook to keep you up-dated. For those of you not on Facebook, you can always call the library at 451-8442 with any questions.

In last week’s column I failed to express my appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of our book sale. Your assistance is always appreciated. See you at the library!
