Many new users frequent library

- PEGGY MADDOX

I came back to work last Wednesday after a few days in St. Louis to celebrate my granddaughter’s third birthday! She had a great party complete with fake snow and a movie on the lawn! Earlier in the day we took a trip to the Butterfly House; it was very interesting to see an almost 3-year-old, a 6-year-old and a 7-year-old stand or sit very still in the hope that a butterfly would land on them! Several rides on the carousel almost did me in.

This summer has passed so quickly — it hardly seems possible school is starting soon. I have certainly enjoyed having many children visiting the library. Hope they continue to visit during the school year.

The Summer Reading Program and the Summer Story Hour were great successes. Thanks to all the children who participated and to the parents for getting them to the library. We are hopeful that the Story Hour can continue after school starts. We would like to continue to have it on Wednesdays so as not to interfere with the Mother’s Day Out at the First Baptist Church.

The Quiet Room has been used a number of times this summer for tutoring sessions, study areas and a couple of meetings. We remain hopeful that someone will take the Lit- eracy Training Course at the Benton County Literacy Council Office and volunteer to teach a reading class at the library. There are thousands of people in Benton County who can not read. You could make a big difference in someone’s life.

The public use computers have gotten a lot of use by both children and adults. While we are pleased that we have these computers, we want to remind our users to please read the Rules for Computer Use policy that is posted in the library. Failure to comply with the rules will result in the user losing computer privileges.

Having the new book drop installed at the library is wonderful! We just need to buy a rolling cart to get the books inside the building. Next project is to get a bike rack installed.

The library is continuing to grow and we are quite pleased that so many people are using it. Approximately 100 library cards have been issued to first time users since we opened in April! Thank you for helping us grow. See you at the library! Editor’s note: Peggy Maddox is the librarian of the Pea Ridge Community Library.
