Pride night set

Blackhawk Pride Night will be held in the new Blackhawk Stadium beginning the 50th year of Blackhawk football Aug. 30, 2013. The stadium dedication and Pride Night will be combined.

There will be a ribbon cutting with representatives from the Pea Ridge School and the construction company, Baldwin & Shell, on hand.

Former Blackhawk athletes are invited to join the festivities.

Traditionally, Pride Night is a fundraiser for the cheerleading program. Tickets are $2 for everyone; no passes will be accepted for Pride Night.

All fall athletic teams and the band will be introduced. The seventh-grade, junior high and varsity teams will each scrimmage beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“It should be a lot of fun. We want to play with the lights on,” Tony Travis, head football coach and athletic director, said.

players are expected to be on hand to sign autographs, Travis said.

The new stadium, constructed just west of the high school and north of the multi-purpose facility, includes a new track surface and school officials hope to host a track meet. The track will be open to the public, but wheels will damage the track, so no bicycles or strollers are allowed.

“We’d like to ask everyone to keep pets off and be especially careful to not have candy, gum or seeds on the track,” Travis said. “We want the community to use the track.”

4 p.m. — Gates open, Pride Night

6:20 p.m. — Jr. High Football, Pride Night

7 p.m.— Varsity Football, Pride Night sand base which acts as a shock pad over a packed gravel base.

The speakers are “directional” providing sound for the fans in the stands, but not emitting noise into the subdivision behind the stadium. The home side seats 1,200 people and the visitors’ bleachers seat 600.

“We are excited about the new stadium and the coming year,” Travis said.
