Library acquires large print books

- PEGGY MADDOX

Hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

The library was very busy last Wednesday and Thursday. The air conditioning unit at the Head Start Building wasn’t working and the staff needed a place to administer their placement tests to the children. We were pleased to offer the use of the library. This was a win-win situation — they had a cool place to work and the library signed up and issued several new library cards.

The Pea Ridge Lions Club visited the library recently to take a tour and to discuss their plans for landscaping around the building. A concrete pad for a bike rack will be need to be poured before any landscaping work can be- gin. We are so appreciative of the work they are doing on our behalf.

Sue Scott, Representative 95th District, and Albert Langley stopped by the library recently and were very enthusiastic about our new home. What an honor it was to show them around and discuss our plans for the future with them.

We have had a lot of books donated over the past few weeks. Several adult, young adult and children’s books have been placed on the shelves. We received a copy of “A Look at the Past – A Pictorial Journey through McDonald County.” This was compiled and edited by Gayle Foster and Karen UtterJennings and published by the McDonald County Historical Society, Pineville, Mo. The front cover has a map depicting 13 historical townships in McDonald County Missouri circa 1925. Those townships are Buffalo, Erie, Elkhorn, Richwood, McMillen, Anderson, Cyclone, Center, Prairie, Elk River, Pineville, White Rock, and Mountain. This will be available for library use only and will not be available for check-out. Thank you to the donor.

Several popular authors have new works being released in September and October including John Grisham, James Patterson, John Sanford, Lee Childs and Nicholas Sparks. I will be pre-ordering some of these so they will be shipped as soon as they are released.

The library recently purchased several used large print books by a number of popular authors. We are hoping to get some audio books. We have a few on cassette tapes but are hoping to obtain some CDs. See you at the library! ••• Editor’s note: Peggy Maddox is the librarian of the Pea Ridge Community Library. She can be reached at the library at 451-8442 or by mail at P.O.
