The Lady Blackhawk varsity cross country team started their season on a positive note as they took second place at the Shiloh invitational in Springdale this past Saturday.

The lady harriers were the runner-up team in the 4A-5A division, finishing second behind 5A power Vilonia by a 15-42 score. The junior girls finished fourth in their meet while both the boys junior and senior cross country teams were idle over the weekend.

Mikhaela Cochran led the high school team with a ninth place overall finish in her division, running the 5K course in 26:58. Right behind her was Rilee Patrick who finished 12th overall in 27:16; followed by Kerstin Hobbs in 13th (27:53); Anna Morgan in 17th (28:36); Gloria Vargas, 23rd (32:46); Emma Pitts, 25th (33:41); and Liz McGowen, 29th (36:50). The first five scorers for the ’Hawks are all underclassmen.

Freshman Krystle Parmenter had the best individual result of the day, coming in third overall in the 4A-5A junior girls 2-mile race with a 15:03 clocking. After her was Alley Wilson, 12th (16:18); Hollyn Davis, 20th (16:51); Avery Dayberry, 22nd (17:12); Melissa Landis, 24th (17:29); and Kiley West, 31st (19:56).

The junior girls were tied with Vilonia for third with 81 points apiece, but the tiebreaker went to the Eagles when their fifth runner beat the ’Hawks’ fifth runner into the finish. Shiloh won the junior girls title with 31 followed by Berryille with 58.
