The Pea Ridge High School basketball team opened their season with an 84-78 victory over Lincoln. Lester Hall had 28 points and Jon Brown had 27. Randy Easterling recorded 21 points.

L.E. Hardy proudly announced that he grew a 6-pound, 3-ounce turnip.

Jerry Morrison, Pea Ridge, shot a six-point buck on the last day of this week’s deer season. There were two more seasons scheduled for the rest of the year.

Mr. and Mrs. John Miser received a Silver Cloud Award at the annual 4-H leader dinner.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawk basketball team included Lonnie Clayton, Tony Anderson, Stanley Foster, Mike Gonce, Rick Stanley, James Dixon, Johnny Bone, Jackie Hamilton, Noble Tyler, Brent Taylor, Darrin Ricketts, John King, Mike Myer, Stanley Beeson, Chuck Hokeah, Roger Martin and Steve Hicks.

The Blackhawk girls basketball team beat Gravette 36-23; the boys lost to Gravette in overtime 54-53.

The Pea Ridge ParentTeac­her organizati­on held its annual fall carnival. The school raised $2,000 for various school projects. Carnival royalty were: Mauel I. Olguin and Sommer Toepfer, fifth grade, and Alex Kelly and Ashley Roughton, kindergart­en.

The Blackhawk basketball player of the week was Michael David for his career high of 15 points against Farmington.

Beta Alpha Sorority provided turkey dinners to 175 senior citizens as part of its annual senior citizens Thanksgivi­ng dinner.

The Community Choir, which included members from churches in the area, held a concert for Thanksgivi­ng. The members included Mary-Lou Beisner, Kim Brown, Wayne Casey, Shannon Cooley, Peggy David, Robin Hardy, Judy Higginbott­om, Doris Lookadoo, Carol Manning, Doug McKinney, Bill Reed and Andrea Ricketts. Jane Cooley played the organ and piano.

The Pea Ridge football team won its game in the first round of playoffs. They beat the Danville Little Johns 28-13. Ryan Barnett had 217 yards on 23 carries for two touchdowns in the first half.

The leadership class was held at Pea Ridge High School for juniors who qualified. Leadership-building activities were led by Kim Brown, Rose Bray and Angela Nuno. The class consisted of Nick Nuno, Cody Anderson, Will Knowlton, Missy Swanson, Shea Spear, Savannah Schwitter, Terrie Wilkerson, Brandi Baker, Julie Fletcher, Brianna Wright and Mai Vang.

A semi-truck carrying gasoline ran off the road outside of Gateway, four other cars stopped to pull the driver out of the cab. The truck caught on fire where four fire department­s including the Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, fought the fire for several hours.
