Pea Ridge Times

Giving thanks

- PASTOR BRIAN TIMMONS Pea Ridge & Brightwater Methodist churches

It seems that Thanksgiving has rolled around quick this year.

It seems like that happens every year. Didn’t we just have Christmas? Now Thanksgiving is here upon us again.

Thanksgiving has a long history in this country going back to the pilgrims. The holiday was not always a holiday and has changed and evolved over the years. Thanksgiving is a time of gathering with family and friends, sharing good food, and, of course, giving thanks. Thanksgiving is a holiday to remind us of the many blessings God has bestowed on us. Sometimes we forget how truly blessed we really are.

This year I will give thanks for my family, especially my wife, who has put up with me for the last 15 years, and our two wonderful kids who have shared their lives with us. I am thankful for a nice house to live in. I am thankful for the food I have to eat. I am thankful for friends. I am thankful for the churches I get to minister at.

I am thankful for a lot of other things. The list could be endless, but there is one thing that I am most thankful for. That is the gift of salvation that comes through Jesus Christ who came into this world so that we would be saved. Yes we have been truly blessed.

This Thanksgiving, think about what God has done for you and give thanks.
