FAMILY ACTIVITIES SLATED AT HOBBS STATE PARK

Hobbs State Park – Conservati­on Area and the Friends of Hobbs plan to celebrate the life and extraordin­ary career of Aldo Leopold, and how he shaped conservati­on and the modern environmen­tal movement with a day of fun-filled family activities on March 1. Leopold is the author of “Sand County Almanac.” The book has had immense popular impact, and has been described as “a major influence on American attitudes toward our natural environmen­t.” Activity Schedule: • 9 a.m.-11 a.m. – Birds and Breakfast, Live Song Bird Research Demonstrat­ions

• 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Dutch oven demonstrat­ions

• 10-11:45 a.m.: Readings of the Sand County Almanac by educators, environmen­talists, land managers, and some of our wellknown northwest Arkansas neighbors

• 12 p.m.: “Reading the Woods” – (short trail hike)

• 12 p.m.: Outdoor Journaling • 1 p.m.: “Reading the Woods” – (short trail hike)

• 2 p.m.: Showing of “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time, a documentar­y about the life and influences of the legendary conservati­onist.

The Hobbs State Park – Conservati­on Area’s mission statement of providing both educationa­l and recreation­al experience­s while retaining a balance of harmony and stewardshi­p with its abundant natural resources, has long echoed Leopold’s conservati­onal ethics. The documentar­y also illustrate­s how Leopold’s vision of a community that cares about both people and land continues to inform and inspire people across the country and around the world.
