The Pea Ridge School PTO voted to join the PTA. The organizati­on also decided that there would be no Halloween Carnival, but instead would hold a carnival in the spring.

The recently organized Little League Booster Club presented a plaque to two of the Little League’s most ardent supporters, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Easton of Pea Ridge. Mr. Easton underwent serious surgery last summer and the Little Leaguers showed their concern in so many ways that the Eastons reciprocat­ed by purchasing a four- by sixfoot U.S. flag to be flown at Little League games.

Pea Ridge High School principal Maurice Mires told School Board members: “It’s too easy for juniors and seniors to get out of class last period. It upsets me that board policy allows vocational students to get a work permit … and miss the last class of the day.”

Pea Ridge Homecoming Queen Melissa Webb, daughter of Pat and Sharon Webb, was escorted across the football field by Chuck Hokeah and Mike Gonce.

Pea Ridge School’s annual Halloween Carnival and Fall Festival will begin during daylight this year with booths opening at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Proceeds will go toward PTA projects for the year, including ceiling fans for classrooms and the cafeteria.

The Pea Ridge City Council hired a new police chief and two patrolmen. Police chief is Carroll Wayne “C.W.” Yarrow of Aurora, Mo., and patrolmen are Charles Patillo of Booneille and Maitland Smith III of Bentonvill­e.

The Pea Ridge National Military Park Advisory Team was formerly organized last Thursday, the first meeting after members were appointed by Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt. On the agenda of the first meeting were team orientatio­n, election of officers, meeting logistics and cursory introducti­on to the park boundary study.

This fall, a Technology Planning Committee has been formed for the Pea Ridge School District. The purpose of this committee is to plan and implement the new technology that is now available for students, teach- ers and community members. One of the primary objectives will be to make the Internet readily available.

Thanks to a team effort and the exciting running of junior tailback Javier Escajeda, the Pea Ridge Blackhawks defeated Mountainbu­rg 36-14 and kept intact a perfect 4-0 conference record.

Fred Willard, volunteer firefighte­r with the Northeast Benton County Fire Department, lost his life in a vehicle accident Sept. 19, 2003, while returning to Fire Station No. 3 after a training sessions. Henry Gresham, president of the Ventris Road Neighborho­od Watch, presented a plaque to members of Willard’s family dedicating an expansion of Station No. 3 in Willard’s memory.

The Pea Ridge First Baptist Church steeple was installed, which reaches 76 feet above the ground, is fiberglass and was assembled in three pieces using two cranes. The assembly took a 10-man crew approximat­ely four and half hours to accomplish.

Jennifer Ivy is understand­ably proud of her 8-yearold son, Shane Ivy. Shane brought a tomato plant home the last day of school in June and it has become a giant. He takes care of it by himself every day after school and has gotten approximat­ely 100 tomatoes off his plant.
