RMNCB 1328, a Fayettevil­le detachment, sent a work party to Pea Ridge to aid the school in completing some of the constructi­on work taking place. Approximat­ely 25 CBs are donating their skill, expertise and time to improve the school facilities. They did some of the inside painting in the new cafetorium and are building an office in the typing building. The exterior of the agricultur­e building is being painted.

Former Pea Ridge Police Chief C.W. Yarrow died last Saturday at Missouri Reha- bilitation Center in Mount Vernon, Mo., after a lengthy illness, an illness that caused him to resign from the Pea Ridge Police Department earlier this year. Yarrow, 61, was hired by the Pea Ridge City Council last October.

The U.S. Achievemen­t Academy announced that Alisa Sutherland was named a U.S. National Award winner in mathematic­s. Alisa attends Rogers High School and was nominated for the award by her math teacher Dana Kappen. Alisa is the daughter of Frank and Becky Sutherland of Garfield.

Garfield City Council members approved a resolution by telephone vote Thursday night to funnel a grant from the city to the new community room that is being added to the new Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire Department fire station.

The younger students get role models and the older students get to be role models. When Crossroads students tutor at Garfield Elementary School, everyone benefits. Crissie Doyle takes her morning class to Garfield once a week. It’s usually about 15 kids and, because she has a CDL license, she can drive them herself in one of the district’s school buses. Once they arrive, they high school students spread out and help where needed.
