New Pea Ridge cheerleade­rs were elected last week by a panel of teachers and students, according to Mrs. Shirley Bovay, cheerleade­r sponsor. They are both junior and senior high with senior cheerleade­rs designated with an asterisk: Iris Morrision, Lesa vanzandt, Darla Christy*, Delana Christy, Mary Mayer*, Cindy Weaver, Brenda Lasater*, Kim Webb*, Sharon Snow, Diana Collins*, Cheryl Clark and Sandy Snow.*

Election of officers for the coming year was held April 21 by Wood-Hall Post 8109, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Floyd Walker, a charter member of the organizati­on, will be its new commander. Others elected are Claud Williams, senior vice commander; James Wright, junior vice commander; Bill Dickson, quartermas­ter; Billy Sisco, service officer; Charles Phillips, advocate; Russell Walker, chaplain; Wayne Ellington, surgeon; Jack Fletcher, officer of the day; Jack Gaines, adjutant; and Ed David, trustee, three-year term.

County Judge Al Norwood reports that he talked with the Arkansas stateaid office (for local roads) Monday morning and was told that the plans for the reconstruc­tion of Leetown Road from Pea Ridge to Arkansas Highway 72 east will be ready in two or three weeks.

Little Flock’s City Council, in a special meeting called for Monday night, voted to hold an election June 4 to annex to the city seven tracts of land bordering on the present city limits. One ordinance provides for the annexation of five tracts of land. Included in Ordinance 40 was the land on the east side of Arkansas Highway 94 from the present north city limit of Rogers to Brush Creek.

The Rogers School Board recently approved an agreement made between Garfield Elementary School principal Bobby Vaughn and the Garfield City Council for the school to use the city council building for classroom space. The city agreed to allow the district to rent the building for $1 a year.

Pea Ridge National Military park will hold a commemorat­ive ceremony on Saturday, May 6, to honor those who fought at the Battle of Pea Ridge. More than 500 Civil War reenactors representi­ng the Union and the Confederac­y are expected to participat­e in the ceremony.

Residents of Pea Ridge will soon have a new option for banking services and products. The Arkansas State Bank Department and the F.D.I.C. have granted regulatory approval for the establishm­ent of a new branch bank to be known as Community First Bank, Pea Ridge. The bank facility will be located at 198 Slack St., just west of the intersecti­on of Arkansas Highways 72 and 94.
