Read the book before watching the movie

- LEE TAYLOR Pea Ridge Library Assistant

This week has been amazing! While the heat keeps some people in doors and reading, others are out having a great time with the local water parks and other fun destinations. We have really enjoyed all those who have come in out of the sun’s heat to tell us stories about growing up in this great town.

With all the new movies coming out that are based on books our “Read this before you watch the movie” shelf has been well used this week. Titles such as “Jurassic Park,” “Lost World,” “Zoo,” “Hunger Games: Mockingbird” and “Star Wars,” as well as others, have filled this shelf only to be checked out soon after. If you want the inside scoop of the story come on by and pick one of these fine books.

We have had 32 children sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge so far! There is still plenty of time to come in and get signed up for a chance at being the top reader for your grade or top reader over all. Signups are open all the way through the end of the contest on June 25.

Do not forget that we also have many books for Young Adult/Teen readers. We have had a large donation of YA/Teen books recently, and they are out on the new shelf in the YA/ Teen section. There are some great new releases as well as books that are just “new” to us.

The For Sale table and Free sections have been overflowing and more items are on the way. We have been trying to circulate the books, magazines and even a movie or two in these sections so that there is always something new for you when you come in.

This week Ms. Jacki is away for camp and so will not be joining us for Story Hour. However, one of our patrons by the name of Mrs. Leslie Hathaway has agreed to host the Story Hour, so we will be ready for all of the kiddos who want to make a stop by the library during their busy days!

The children read “Dumbo,” one of my favorite stories, last week and made a very happy clown for their craft. It is always amazing to see what our volunteers come up with for the kids to do whenever we have a special library activity. I cannot wait to see what next week’s book and craft will be!

Until the next time, have fun, stay cool and read a great book. See you soon, and bring someone with you!
