Ferold Gene Arend
Ferold Gene Arend, 90, of Bentonville, Ark., died Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, in Bentonville. He was born July 18, 1925, in Fairbury, Neb., to Henry and Alice Pearston Arend.
He served in the United States Navy as a signalman on the USS Deuel in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He married M. Jane Courmier, on June 19, 1951. He began his retail career at Hested’s 5&10 in Kansas and Nebraska. He was vice president of J.J.Newberry Corp. when he accepted Sam Walton’s invitation to come to Bentonville in 1966. History was made with his part in establishing Walmart Stores Inc. by serving as Walmart’s first corporate president and chief operating officer. He retired as vice chairman of the board of directors in 1984.
Ferold was very supportive in the growth and development of the city of Bentonville. He helped in the financing of the original Bentonville Parking Districts and also provided the seed money for the initial renovation and revitalization of the downtown square.
Ferold and Jane were two of the founders in the effort to save the Peel Mansion. Over the years they continued to support its mission to preserve the history of the area. Education and the arts played an important part in his philanthropy. When approached by the Bentonville School district to build an arts center, Arend recognized the need which resulted in the Arend Arts Center at Bentonville High School where more than one million people have enjoyed performances. He also established the Arend Family Community Center in his home town, of Fairbury, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jane Arend in 2010; his parents; one brother, Wendell Arend; and one sister, Lois B. Kapke.
Survivors include one daughter, Debi Havner and husband, Galen of Bentonville; three sons, Curtis Arend and wife, Theresa of Rogers, Scott Arend of Rogers and Mike Arend and wife, Tami, of Garfield; three grandchildren, Alice Jane Havner, William Henry Arend, Cineca Spring Keck; one great-grandchild, Lennon Keck; and two bonus grandchildren, Victoria and Vincent Vitali.
Private services will be held.

Vivian Charlene Dean
Vivian Charlene Dean, 90, of Pea Ridge, died Oct. 8, 2015, at her home. She was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Smackover, Ark., to George Headley Sooter and Eva Almira True Sooter.
She moved to Pea Ridge 33 years ago and enjoyed reading, gardening and was a member of Freedom Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet Dean; a grandson, Kevin Dean; two brothers, Russell and Alden Sooter; and three sisters, Helen Hickman, Reba Murphy and infant Iva Sooter.
Survivors are three sons, Donald Dean of Orville, Calif., Chester Dean and Clinton Dean, both of Pea Ridge; a daughter, Eva Larsen of Centerton; a brother, Donald Sooter of Rogers; two sisters, Louise Riley and Alma Brown of Rogers; 10 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; and 11 greatgreat grandchildren.
No visitation is scheduled.
Graveside service was 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Walnut Hill Cemetery with pastor Mike Hutsell officiating.
Arrangements were by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Edward Harold Fletcher
Edward Harold Fletcher, 82, of Stockton, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility in Stockton. He was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Barry County, Mo., to Harold Barron Fletcher and Lois Cynthia Mahurin Fletcher.
He was raised in the Jacket, Mo., area and attended a country school until eighth grade. He worked for Daisy Manufacturing and Bentonville Casting and raised cattle and chickens on his farm. He was very musically talented and played the steel guitar. He was the song leader at Maple Grove Church of Christ and was a member of Church of Christ in Stockton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Jimmy Fletcher; and two sisters, Lorene Tidwell and Marcella Fletcher.
Survivors are his wife Elizabeth Faye Fletcher of the home; two sons, Michael Fletcher and wife Leah Anne of Grove, Okla., and Allen Fletcher and wife Susan of Jerico Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Charlotte Wall and husband Danny of Jacket, Mo.; two brothers, Ernest Fletcher of Jacket, Mo., and Gene Fletcher of Lockwood, Mo.; one sister Evelyn Fletcher of Pea Ridge; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.
Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Antioch Cemetery.

Henry Leon Floyd
Henry Leon Floyd, 72, of Garfield, Ark., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born Nov. 9, 1942, in Crossville, Ill., the son of Omer G. Floyd Sr. and Mildred Precure Floyd. Henry owned and operated Floyd Engineering, and was a devoted Christian man. Henry was an avid Razorback football fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 40 years, Ruth Robinson Floyd; and a sister Beverly June Floyd.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years Patricia Rogers Floyd of the home; children, Judi McCoy and husband Lonnie of Garfield, John H. Floyd and wife DeDe of Pea Ridge, Janet Couch of Springdale, Scott Rogers and wife LeAnn of Elkins, and Michelle Rogers Bowers and husband Jeff of Cave Springs; brother, Omer G. Floyd Jr. and wife Lovie of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters, Glenda Dunham of Riverside, Calif., and Kathryn Buttram and husband Randy of Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th in Rogers, Ark., with Pastor Bobby Womack officiating. Private interment was in the Rogers Cemetery. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributionsmay be made to Circle of Life Hospice.

Harold Roy Hughes
Harold Roy Hughes, 90, of Pea Ridge, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at Shiloh Nursing and Rehab in Springdale. He was born April 28, 1925, in Springdale to Roy William Hughes and Cecil Geneva Mason Hughes.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a field music corporal where he played bugle at reveille and taps. He married Ruby Bell Harris Feb. 9, 1947. He worked
for Lucky Stores for 21 years where he was in fleet maintenance and garage manager.
He moved to Pea Ridge in 1990 to make his home. He loved music, playing the guitar and singing. He served as a deacon at Westside Baptist Church in Pea Ridge for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Hughes; and one sister, Loretta Ball.
Survivors are two sons, Michael Hughes and wife Julie of Sacramento, Calif., and David Hughes and wife Janice of Laguna Hills, Calif.; one daughter, Tonya Deloris Dumant and husband David of San Jose, Calif.; three brothers, Kenneth Hughes of Springdale, Herbert Hughes of Farmington, and Larry Hughes of Hot Springs; two sisters, Lenora Sutton of Springdale and Donna Danner of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in Sisco Funeral Home Chapel, Pea Ridge.

Marcella Jo Lee
Marcella Jo Lee, 87, of Pea Ridge, died Oct. 10 at Highland Healthcare in Rogers. She was born June 4, 1928, in Jacket, Mo., to Enoch Dow Patterson and Anna Josephine Morgan Patterson.
She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, listening to country music (Loretta Lynn, George Jones and Bill Anderson) and was a member of Pea Ridge Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julian Lee; and a brother, Carl Patterson.
Survivors are a sister, Geneva Yousey and husband Bill of Rogers.
Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Pea Ridge Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Steven Dale Lemery
Steven Dale Lemery, 56, of, Pea Ridge, died Monday, Oct. 12, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born April 6, 1959, in Blytheville, Ark., to Dale Gordon Lemery and Betty Lou Ledbetter Lemery.
He had lived in the area for 25 years and married Ginger Sue Easton Aug. 8, 1988. He was a sandblaster, painter and worked for Erwin Towing and Wrecker Service in Pea Ridge. He loved to ride his motorcycle and spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Ginger Lemery of the home; his parents of Omaha, Ark.; a son, Christopher Lemery (Melissa) of Harrison; three daughters, Katie Wilson (Dwayne) of Bell, Fla., Christine Burroughs (Kevin Beauregard) of Pea Ridge and Patty Mize (Paul) of Pea Ridge; two sisters, Laura Kasper (Lorin) of Omaha, Ark., and Debbie Miller (Scott) of Michigan; and 11 grandchildren.
Cremation services are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge. No memorial is planned at this time.

Albert Ray Rust
Albert Ray Rust, 60, of Pea Ridge, died Sept. 27, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. He was born Aug. 26, 1955, in Manhattan, Kan., to William Wesley Rust and Darlene Lois Hilbish Rust.
He was a car salesman at Turkey’s Auto Sales in Rogers for 15 years. He enjoyed car races, antique cars and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Eddie Rust; and one granddaughter, Nola Melton.
Survivors are his wife, Karen Rust of the home; his mother, Darlene Rust of Huntsville; three children, Christopher Rust of Pea Ridge, James Rust and wife Syble of Garfield and Katie Hagar and husband Jason of Pea Ridge; a brother, Howard Rust of Springdale; two sisters, Rose Scranton of Elkins and Tena Watson and husband Kimmy of Huntsville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, with pastor Al Fowler officiating.
Burial was in Dent Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

James ‘David’ Wise
James “David” Wise, 77, of Rogers, Ark., died Oct. 9, 2015, in Rogers. He was born March 9, 1938, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Arlie and Hazel McDermott Wise.
He was a golf course greens superintendent for 27 years in Bella Vista and also Eldon, Ozark and Moberly, Mo. He was also an equipment operator for the Benton County Road Department for 23 years. He attended Phillips Chapel in Springdale.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Stover Wise of the home; four children, Debora Brewer of Rogers, Linda Hurt of Little Flock, David James Wise of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Sherri Wise of Rogers; three sisters, Donna Wise of Springdale, Carolyn Mabry of Rogers and Linda Greenlee of Highfill; three brothers, Al Wise of Cave Springs, Kenny Wise of Gentry and Jimmy Wise of Rogers; five grandchildren, Brittany Wise, Amber Patton, Tim Golladay, Alexandra Brewer and Samantha Watson; and three great-grandchildren Eva Patton, Ancient and Zynk Golladay.
Visitation was 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th in Rogers, with Tony Byler officiating.
