Garfield woman arrested for DWI after accident

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

BELLA VISTA — A Garfield woman was arrested Nov. 6 for driving while intoxicated after a single-vehicle accident on Arkansas Highway 340 near Bedlington Lane.

Christina Cassidy, 31, of 14023 East Arkansas Highway 72, was driving west on Ark. Hwy. 340 about 7:30 a.m. when she careened off the road and into the woods. Bella Vista Police found Cassidy’s 2006 Toyota Prius wedged against a tree and resting on its passenger side, according to an incident report.

Cassidy was conscious and talking, but officers on the scene noticed the stench of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Cassidy had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Fire Department and was transported to Mercy Rogers for undisclosed injuries, according to the report. Cassidy was described as having blood-shot eyes, slurred speech and smelling of alcohol while at the hospital, according to the report.

A witness told police he first thought Cassidy was drunk when he saw her pull into the parking lot of Ozark Beverage Co. in Pea Ridge and “noticed the smell of booze,” according to the report. The witness said he told Cassidy she shouldn’t be driving and tried to take her car keys. The witness tried to follow Cassidy once she left the store, but lost sight of her until he discovered her wrecked vehicle in the woods.

In addition to her DWI charge, police cited Cassidy for refusal to submit and careless/prohibited driving.

Cassidy was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit and careless/prohibited driving.
