Groundwork has begun on the restoratio­n of the stone Garfield school building that was built in 1921. With the donation of $10,000 from the Rogers Community Recycling Center, the Garfield School Restoratio­n Committee has raised nearly $23,000 with other substantia­l promises of donations on the line. The committee hopes to raise more than $100,000.

Applying for a revolving loan from the state is the next step the Pea Ridge School Board will take toward acquiring muchneeded classroom space. Before agreeing to apply for the loan Monday night, School Board members looked at a revised draft of the design for the middle school classrooms that they had viewed at the November board meeting.

As of Monday morning, there were still nine angels on the Angel Tree at City Hall. Volunteers are needed to assure these nine chil- dren have a gift and clothing for Christmas.

Michael Woods scored a field goal off a steal by Alex Kelley and added a free throw inside the final 20 seconds of play and Pea Ridge held off hardchargi­ng Gravette Tuesday night at the Benton County Tournament in Pea Ridge. The final score was Blackhawks 53-52.

Brentley Wilkerson served as auctioneer during the Granny’s Quilts of Love chili supper and auction Friday night in the emergency services building community room in Pea Ridge. The event raised $1,441.70 for the group.
