Property on Slack Street (Ark. Hwy. 72) was approved to be rezoned from agricultural to R-2, a residential zone that allows multi-family dwellings up to a four-plex to be constructed.

Hal Evans and Susan Hope with Kansas Land Company requested the rezone for the five acres on which they plan to construct rental properties.

“We’re here to get feed back and get your support,” Evans told the Pea Ridge Planning Commission at their Tuesday, Jan. 5, meeting. “We’re definitely a company that’s going to build a nice, livable property … it’s going to be a topgrade property.”

The property is not currently in the city limits and Evans said he wants it zoned R-2 when it’s annexed. He said he’s planning duplexes and triplexes.

Prior to construction, the property owners would have to present and have approved a largescale development plan, city building official Tony Townsend said.

Planner Dr. Karen Sherman expressed concern about the access to the property which is directly across from Summit Meadows.

“I think the egress and ingress to this is concerning to me,” planner Jerry Burton said.

Townsend reminded planners the access and other issues would be addressed when the subdivision plan is presented.

One resident, Karen Lobato, expressed concerns and said

the growth in the area is “alarming to me. I came here because it was a nice small community; it’s blowing up. It will definitely make me move.”

In other business, planners:

• Approved rezoning 224 W. Pickens Road, from A-1 to R-1 for Chris Speakman;

• Elected officers, continuing last year’s positions with Zach Hoyt as chairman.
