The Virgil Green family, owners and operators of the Aunt Sally’s Grocery and Market, located on Highway 72 about two miles east of Pea Ridge, will hold the formal opening of their new store this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Three bus loads of school children from Huntsville visited briefly in Pea Ridge Monday after touring the Pea Ridge National Military Park.

The Beta Alpha Sorority, ESA, will sponsor a chicken barbecue at the Community Building in Pea Ridge Saturday, April 9.

Mary Gladys Samuel won the grand prize of a set of copper/stainless steel cookware at a drawing Saturday at Harp’s Pharmacy which had its grand opening.

David Webb, formerly of Pea Ridge, the new director of finance and administra­tion for the city of Bentonvill­e, was introduced to members of the area press at a press conference in Bentonvill­e Tuesday.

Pea Ridge Marshall John Demaree and night patrolman Loyd Pifer recently received new uniforms ordered by the city. The new black and grey uniforms replaced the old outfits which were khaki colored.

Pea Ridge moved a step closer to having a police station with an announceme­nt from the state Commission on Crime and Law Enforcemen­t that an applicatio­n for funds for that purpose has been approved.

The Pea Ridge Planning Commission completed its work on a proposed set of subdivisio­n regulation­s which is now ready for considerat­ion by the City Council at a special meeting set for April 12.

Pea Ridge Mayor Lester Hall filed as a Democrat to oppose incumbent Republican Tim Hutchinson in the race for State House of Representa­tives District 1 seat.

The local Pee Wee Basketball will go to Little Rock as members of the Benton County AAU.

Gateway Town council meets at 7 p.m. Thursday in the home of Mayor Ada Walker.

The Pea Ridge United Fund has reached its 199596 goal of $28,500 and will soon begin dispensing money to member agencies, said united Fund president Jason Tennant.

The annual Beta Alpha Easter egg hunt was held on the Oak Ridge retirement lodge lawn Saturday.

Levi Hendrix of Garfield was the Arkansas winner and national semi-finalist in the 1996 Kentucky Fried Chicken/Family Circle All-American Salute to Mothers national greeting card contest. Hendrix is the son of Randy and Annette Hendrix.

The Pea Ridge Area Ministeria­l Alliance will host an Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday in the Pea Ridge City Park.

Star students for March in third and fourth grade at Pea Ridge Elementary School were Missy Swanson, Nicolas Nuno, Michele Helton, Marilee Oaks, Katie Ward, T.J. Liddell and Justin Bolinger.

The moratorium on new developmen­ts in the city was lifted by a unanimous vote of the City Council members at their meeting last week. Several builders attended the meeting, but none addressed the council.

Shingles were replaced on several houses throughout town after many were damaged by hail during March storms.

Several rezoning requests and an annexation were addressed by City Council members at their regular meeting last week. In conjunctio­n with lifting the moratorium, council men discussed the upgrading of the city’s existing water and sewer lines, as well as the constructi­on by developers of a sewer line to the north along Ark. Hwy. 94 to Easterling Road.
