50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 20 Thursday, May 19, 1966

The city of Pea Ridge let the contract for the laying of a water line from the water tower to the meter in Rogers with work on the project to begin immediatel­y with completion in August.

The Pea Ridge public schools will be dismissed for the summer vacations on Saturday, May 21.

Steve Patton was president of the senior class of 1966; Dwain Jobe was vice president; Susan Jones David was secretary-treasurer. Sponsors were Joe R. Dorman and William Casement.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 10 No. 20 Wednesday, May 19, 1976

A nearly full house was on hand at Pea Ridge High School gym as diplomas were awarded to the 35 graduating seniors. Class president was Delwyn Cooley, salutatori­an was Beverly Thomas and valedictor­ian was Brenda Lasater. Diplomas were presented by School Board president Keith Escue.

The regular meeting of the Garfield City Council met Friday with Mayor Wimpy Jones, city clerk Jane Davis and two aldermen, Don Hall and Merle Weimer.

Happy 75th birthday, Bank of Pea Ridge was the headline on this week’s paper.

Pea Ridge’s mayor and council, in regular meeting May 8 and in special session May 12, confirmed their directive to Marshal Hugh Turner to carry out strict enforcemen­t of City Ord. 70 (animal control) and to continue issuing citations; appointed Charles Stewart to fill the council vacancy left by David Hatfield’s moving; hired a fulltime deputy to work with Turner; passed an electrical code ordinance; heard the second reading of an ordinance authorizin­g the purchases and payments up to $5,000 without calling for bids; approved a scholarshi­p of $500 to the Pea Ridge Scholarshi­p Fund; and heard progress on a problem relating to truck parking adjacent to a Smith Street residentia­l area.

This week’s VIPs from Pea Ridge Elementary School were Mike Scism, Stacy Paulsen, Kevin Parker, Ruby Wahl, Christy Scism, Kim Walker, Traci Madewell, Chad Frazier, Allen Hall, David Everett, Bryant Miller, Mark Grigg, Latina Neal, Brian Easley, John Baker, John Lovatt, Brad Cotton, Alex Cotton and Alex David.

20 Years Ago The TIMES of Northeast Benton County Vol. 30 No. 20 Thursday, May 16, 1996

The Garfield City Council has given property owners of the former Tall Oaks Trading Post an extension of time to clean the property.

Pea Ridge Police Chief Tim Ledbetter said he is placed with his first year on the job.

Freddie Walker and Ashley Prophet, rising seniors at Pea Ridge High School, have been nominated for the third annual Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, said principal Jerry Endsley.

Star students for April in third- and fourth-grades at Pea Ridge Elementary School were Ashley Woodward, Lindsay Raymer, Jennifer Lauver, Chris Fuller, Angela Leach, Michelle Keene, Bo Whitted and Jesse Thompson.

10 Years Ago The TIMES of Northeast Benton County Vol. 40 No. 20 May 29, 2006

It was a difficult decision, but the School Board and principal agreed to name five students as valedictor­ians of the Pea Ridge High School graduating class of 2006. The students — Kristin Henry, Meagan Stellpflug, Caleb Duvall, Ashley Roughton and Kyra Hopkins — all have grade point averages above 4.0. Graduation was held Saturday in Barnhill Arena, University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le.

Four Pea Ridge students and a coach were selected to participat­e in the All-Stars games next month. Dustin Hickman was chosen for the All-Star football team; Alex Kelly was chosen to All-Star basketball; coach Larry Walker was named assistant coach for the West teams boy’s basketball team; and Megan Stellpflug and Jake Patton will cheer for the West teams.

Ashley Roughton received the Cristy Graham Memorial Award from athletic directory Larry Walker.
