50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 26 Thursday, June 30, 1966

W.M. Smith has been employed by the city of Pea Ridge as a city police officer and will assume his duties on July 1.

Ralph Bolain, president of the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce, announced that the Chamber would sponsor a chicken barbecue on July 2 at the informatio­n booth. Fred McKinney will be the chef providing his own special barbecuing sauce that has gained wide acclaim through the past several years. The chicken will sell for 60 cents per half of chicken.

Jack Musteen was featured on a combine harvesting grain on a field near Pea Ridge.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 1 No. 26 Wednesday, June 30, 1976

The Pea Ridge School board voted to erect a build- ing to provide classroom space needed by the time school opens in the fall.

Mrs. Grayden D. Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Roe of Pea Ridge and Miss Maude Sims and Mrs. Meda Feasel of Jane, Mo., are among area residents who contribute­d to the “Search for Earl American Art” project.

The City of Pea Ridge has received a check for $4,336.99 from the federal Law Enforcemen­t Assistance Administra­tion and $240.95 from the state Criminal Justice Planning Commission to be matched by $240.95 from the city for the renovation of the upstairs portion of City Hall for a police station.

30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Country Times Vol. 1 No. 26 Wednesday, June 25, 1986

William Howard Price, 77, was just trying to be neighborly last week when a man showed up at his door claiming to be out of gas. Price let him siphon gas out of his own vehicle when another man appeared and put a gun to Price’s side. He began yelling to his neighbor, Mrs. Jackie Blevins, to call police and the would-be abductors fled from the scene. Benton County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kenny Farmer investigat­ed the incident.

Pea Ridge marshal Hugh Turner said he released deputy David Peterson after a short term of employment “on grounds of incompatib­ility with police work.”

On June 18, the Pea Ridge City Council agreed to run water lines to a future housing developmen­t that adjoins Ark. Highway 94 north just outside the city limits. Franklin Miller and Luther Black are the developers of the 116-acre property called Givens Place.

The Benton County Radio Operators Club had its annual Field Day last weekend at the Pea Ridge home of Roger and Shirley Harris.

Constructi­on on a water main project that will reach new customers and enhance fire protection should begin within 90 days, said Pea Ridge Water superinten­dent Robert Button.

A curfew restrictin­g minor children being out on the public roads late at night was approved by City Council members.

The TIMES office moved from the current office space on Lee Town Road to 981 N. Curtis Ave.

Many cities in the area have ordinances prohibitin­g the dischargin­g of fireworks within city limits. There are several organized fireworks displays.

A desire to help others motivated Jim Cheek and John Brown to begin the Sugar Creek Golf Classic. It began 13 years ago with 12 people meeting at Elk River Golf Course.
