50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 28 Thursday, July 14, 1966

The annual music symposium at the Bella Vista Fine Arts Center inc., four miles north of Bentonvill­e, continues this week through Friday will all kinds of classes in music, dancing, choral work and concerts.

Aunt Sally’s Market, two miles east of Pea Ridge on Arkansas Highway 72 advertised as selling live bait, gasoline, oil, tires and a complete line of groceries. It was open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Delbert David and party of Pea Ridge caught a nice string of catfish up to 7 pounds on War Eagle using minnows for bait.

The Pea Ridge City Council last Thursday night elected an alderman to fill an unexpired term, appointed five Pea Ridge citizens to the newly-created parks and Recreation Commission and approved the renewal of a contract for the operation of the city ambulance service.

The new alderman for Ward 1, Position 2, is Dean Messer.

Wild West “shoot outs” on the McDonald County square at Pineville, Mo., will feature this years’ fourday Jesse James Days celebratio­n Thursday, July 15, through Sunday, July 18.

Geneva Morgan was named Miss Pea Ridge 1976; first runner-up was Annita Easterling; second runnerup was Terry Nelson, who was also named Miss Congeniali­ty.

The Garfield City Council discussed options on the city’s water well with Chuck Hazelton, a repre- sentative of Adcock Drilling Co.

Billie Jines, writer, historian, genealogis­t, tireless worker for Pea Ridge civic projects and former publisher with her husband, Earle, of what is now The TIMES, has been named Pea Ridge Community Fair Parade marshal by Beta Alpha Sorority, sponsors of the annual event.

Jim Walton, chairman of the board of the Bank of Pea Ridge, has announced the appointmen­t of Greg D. Reed as president of the bank.

Food, horse drawn wagons, photo sessions on a donkey and an opportunit­y to meet local and state elected officials will be featured at the annual Democratic Picnic in the Park in Little Flock Park.

Country entertaine­rs from Kansas put on an impromptu music party Saturday night at the Pea Ridge E.H. Building. Their leader, Paul Greene, is the brother of Olevia Miser.

Five staff resignatio­ns were accepted by the Pea Ridge School Board Monday night including the resignatio­n of Middle School principal Mike Mason.

The 47th annual Pea Ridge Community Fair opened Wednesday night with the Miss Pea Ridge and Mr. and Miss Tiny Tot contests.

On July 2, the Garfield City Council passed an ordinance that will regulate the installati­on and operation of city water lines outside the city limits. Deputy assistant attorney Bill Hass presented a rough draft of the ordinance to the council.

A Pea Ridge couple, Bob and Kathleen Everett, opened Everdale Gardens at 165 W. Pickens St.

The 57th Pea Ridge Community Fair opens tonight with the traditiona­l ringing of the bell in the bell tower replica made of bricks from the original Pea Ridge Masonic College sponsored by the Beta Alpha Sorority.

A ground breaking for Community First Bank is scheduled for Friday on Slack Street just west of the four-way stop.

Two of the three trash services that pick up garbage in the city are expected to have representa­tives at next Tuesday’s City Council meeting to request an increase in their fees to offset expenses by increased fuel charges.
