City cleans land

Lien approved

Pea Ridge City Council members approved placing a lien of $11,528.61 on the property of Merrie Lynn Smith, Greer Street. Smith died and no heirs have been located. No one appeared at the public hearing concerning the lien.

“How would you go about getting that land like for a park or something,” Mayor Jackie Crabtree asked city attorney Howard Slinkard, who said he would research it. Slinkard said there is usually a five-year process of the property having unpaid taxes and later being sold to pay the taxes.

Stephens Inc. was selected the bonding agency for the city’s new wastewater treatment plant. Kev- in Faught, senior vice president, made the presentation. Other companies vying for the city’s business included Crews and Associates and Raymond James.

“My recommendation is Stephens,” the mayor told the council. In other business, the council: • Heard a presentation from Kelly Freeman, project manager for McClelland Consulting Engineers, on the progress of the new wastewater treatment plant plans;

• Approved increasing the water and sewer tap fees;

• Approved the purchase of a boring rig for the Water Department; and

• Authorized the mayor to work out a lease for city buildings downtown which will be vacated when the new City Hall is occupied.
