50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 30 Thursday, July 28, 1966

Laying of the water line from the tower in Rogers to the tower in Pea Ridge has been completed. However, some minor delay has occurred because of a valve malfunctio­n at the tower site.

The Pea Ridge public schools will begin the 196667 school year on Monday, Aug. 29, according to a news release from that office.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 11 No. 30 Wednesday, July 28, 1976

The Pea Ridge School Board, at its regular monthly meeting Monday night, accepted the resignatio­n of high school principal Gilbert Davis, interviewe­d as an applicant for the position of elementary principal, heard a financial report for the past year and hired a new elementary teacher.

All first year senior band students at Pea Ridge High School and new students who have moved into the district since the close of school last year, will hold their first practice Aug. 9, according to Dallas Lafleur, band director.

Pea Ridge 4-H members won trophies at the District 4-H O’Rama. Winners include Ellen Daniel, DeAnn Hall, Donna Steiger, John Adams, Faith Daniel, Juanita Armer, Susan Farine, Michelle Bertschy and Shawn Belts.

30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Country Times Vol. 21 No. 30 Wednesday, July 23, 1986

Pea Ridge isn’t any place to get arrested or ticketed, if recent trends in municipal court are an indication. The police department under the direction of City Marshal Hugh Turner, has main- tained a 99 percent conviction rate since the beginning of this year not counting five cases that it dismissed voluntaril­y after an arresting officer was dismissed from the department.

Monday Ora Dell Johnson of White Oak Hollow drove her 1977 four-wheel drive pickup loaded with fresh corn out in the pasture where she planned to husk the corn and feed the husks to their cattle. When she was ready to return to the house, the pickup wouldn’t start and she thought it was flooded.

The Pea Ridge City Council appointed Alan Merritt to replace Sammy Spivey as fire chief.

The Pea Ridge National Military Park celebrated its 30th anniversar­y.

The city of Pea Ridge and Rogers Water Utilities have yet to sign a contract for the purchase of water. In June, a new water contract developed by the Rogers City Council was reviewed by the Pea Ridge City Council and it was agreed to send City Attorney Howard Slinkard’s draft of a water contract to Rogers instead of signing the one presented by Rogers.

Tina Bangs and her family will open Tina’s Thrift Store Aug. 3.

The old Garfield School restoratio­n progress is going strong according to restoratio­n chairman David Ross.

Alderman Bob Cottingham announced he intends to seek election to the seat he has held for a year and a half through appointmen­t.

For the first time in the history of the City Park, a group was charged to use it. Pastor Rick Booyer of Twelve Corners Baptist Church said one of his members helping to organize the fundraiser this past weekend for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, was called by Jessica Funk, chairman of the Parks Commission, and told they had to pay $100 to use the park. Mayor Jackie Crabtree authorized reimbursem­ent.
