The Benton County National Farmers Organization will hold its next weekly meeting in Pea Ridge in the community building.
Franklin Miller, owneroperator of Frank’s Country Market, will re-open for business, Friday, Sept. 16. The market features locally fattened corn fed beef and pork and is located at the Miller farm about one-half mile east of the Pea Ridge Mill.
The Pea Ridge Blackhawks blasted Gentry 38-7 in 1B action Friday. Halfback Franklin Walker made the first touchdown; fullback Jerry Bowman made the second touchdown of the evening.

The Pea Ridge High School Blackhawk defense set the tone of the game in the first three plays after the opening kickoff to the Lincoln Wolves, denying them their first effort for a first down. The Hawks won the season opener 19-0 against Lincoln.
Rick Buck, vice president and cashier of the Bank of Pea Ridge, accepted a Benton County 4H Foundation Century Club plaque from John R. Payne, county extension agent.
The old Pea Ridge Milling Company building was burned to make way for a Spee-Dee Mart store planned for the southwest corner of Ark. Highways 94 and 72. L.E. Hardy, was was co-owner of the milling company for 12 years, said the building was constructed for use as a feed mill about 1954 by the late Nath Smith and his son, Bill Smith. The Smiths operated the business until 1956 when Charles Griffin and Hardy acquired it. The mill manufactured all kinds of feed except turkey feed, Hardy said. The two men also operated a hardware and farm supply business in conjunction with the mill for several years. The business was sold and the mill closed in 1968.

The field of mayoral candidates stands at three since the fling last week of Donald B. Proper. Alvin Greene and Mayor Rogers had announced their candidacy several days earlier.
Pea Ridge Schools superintendent Bill Alvarez told a large group attending the Teacher Appreciation dinner that he believes the school will meet the state education standards by June 1, 1987. He planned to improve the libraries both at the high school and the elementary school and improving language arts, math and science programs. Dave Montgomery, president of the Chamber of Commerce, welcomed attendees. Board members present were Ronnie Foster, Tony Fletcher, Kent Webb and Doug McKinney.
Pea Ridge Fire Department Chief Allen Merritt reported firefighters burned a brush pile on the Mike Small property as a training exercise. He also encouraged residents to install smoke detector alarms and get chimneys cleaned.

Pea Ridge School superintendent Roy Norvell said that voter approval to extend 2.2 mills for 22 years is essential tot he good fiscal health of the school district. Voters will go to the polls on Sept. 17 to decide whether to extend the millage for school construction. The millage, which will expire on April 1, 1997, was dedicated to an April 1, 1976, bond issue used for school construction. The School Board initiated a 10-classroom addition this spring.
The first days of school have been pleasantly smooth, said Pea Ridge School superintendent Roy Norvell. Enrollment was 986 last Friday.
David and Allen Treadwell of Jacket, Mo., and Josh Hendrix of Washburn, Mo., participated in the International Youth Hunter Education Challenge at the National Rifle Association’s Whittington Center in Raton, N.M.

Area residents have stepped up to work together in bettering the community. Committees have been formed and work is progressing on the program designed to plan the future of Pea Ridge. The next Arkansas Community of Excellence (ACE) meeting is set for Thursday.
The state representative seat being vacated by Shirley Borhauer is sought by Donna Hutchinson, R., and Carole Westby, D., both of Bella Vista. The district encompasses Bella Vista, Pea Ridge and portions of Garfield.
The semi-annual NEBCO chicken and catfish dinner was held Saturday at the Garfield Elementary School.
Water will not be available for approximately two weeks from the Pea Ridge bulk water machine at the city Street Department building. According to water superintendent Ken ayes, the machine will be unavailable while demolishing the current building and reconstruction a new facility for the bulk water machine.
Gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson visited the Pea Ridge High School world geography classroom this past week.
Looking more like reloading than rebuilding, the Pea Ridge Blackhawks sustained their success from 2005 as they ground down the visiting Gentry Pioneers 22-7 in the 2006 season opener. With more than 75 percent of last year’s starters gone, Pea Ridge was seemingly starting from scratch this year.
Lida Schnitzer has been mayor of Gateway for the past 17 years and faces no opposition again. She took office in January 1989.

AWANA clubs begin Wednesday, Sept. 7, and will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for kindergarten through sixth grade. Adult Bible study is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Youth will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday.
Sunday worship services are at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday school is at 10 a.m.
