The annual Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce dinner will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in the grade school cafeteria. George Wells, manager of the Pea Ridge Furniture Store is the new president and Ralph Bolain, candidate for county assessor, is the outgoing president. Tickets are $1.50 each. Dinner will be served by Beta Alpha Chapter, ESA Sorority.
The E. H. Club of Pea Ridge is sponsoring a chili supper Saturday, Oct. 15, at Pea Ridge Community building from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dinner will be 50 cents for chili, 15 cents for homemade pie and 10 cents for coffee.

The regular meeting of the Garfield City Council Friday, Oct. 8, was held in the Garfield school. Mayor Wimpy Jones, city clerk Jane Davis and aldermen Buddy Seamster and Lyle Mahurin were present.
Barbara Sheppard and Virgie Adcock from Alpha Nu and Beta Alpha chapters of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority show two of the prizes that will be given to winners of the Million Dollar Bike Ride Sunday in Pea Ridge.
The new formed city Park Commission met Sunday afternoon at City Hall. The commission members agreed that the first priority is to raise approximately $1,000 needed to complete the purchase of the park property. Joyce Hale, park commission secretary, who is also a member of the Bicentennial Committee, reported that $3,000 in Bicentennial Committee funds would be spent on the park by the end of the year.

A tractor trailer and car collided on U.S. Hwy. 62 in Garfield. Allie Willine Junior, 55, Rogers, was injured. Arkansas State Police said the tractor trailer rig “went out of control” and crossed into the oncoming traffic lane.
About 60 Pea Ridge parents, teachers and interested citizens turned out for an organizational meeting of a parent-teacher group in the school cafetorium. Chaired by Bob Harmon, the group showed strong interest in building an active organization. the former PTA disbanded last spring. Officers were Harmon, president, Sherry Ray, vice president; JoAnn Sorrell, secretary; Janet Spivey, treasurer.
When Hugh H. Webb Sr. opened Webb’s Feed and Electric Hatchery in Pea Ridge 50 years ago, he helped set the course of the area’s economy for decades to come.

The president of the sponsoring Pea Ridge Lions Club called the eighth annual International Mule Jump a huge success. President David Dickey said: It was great and we had great attendance.” Becki O’Brien was a winner in the pole bending and Heather Harrison took the under 51” trophy for jumps.
Approximately 1,300 feet of solid rock that runs 12 to 14 feet deep caused the Garfield City Council to change plans for the Seamster Road water main extension project.
Pea Ridge National Military Park will hold a guided walking tour of Leetown Battlefield on Saturday, Oct. 19.
There will be a ceremonial showing of the Pea Ridge Mural from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the community room of the Emergency Services building. Bentonville artist Randy Townzen, who began painting the mural in 1994 and recently completed it, will be at the showing.

Ground breaking began this week for temporary facilities for Arvest Bank, Pea Ridge branch, following approval by the Planning Commission for a conditional use permit. Bank officials told planners they will put in temporary facilities while constructing a new bank building.
Two firing reproduction cannons have been received at the Pea Ridge National Military Park, which was created in 1956 and opened in 1963. In that time, the park did not own a cannon they could use for firing demonstrations for the public. ghat changed this year with the arrival of not one, but two, firing reproduction M-1841 sixpound cannons.
A pair of Pea Ridge High School linksters earned All-State honors in the recent class AAA State Golf Tournaments. Juniors Justin Doherty and Nina Pinto were among the top finishers at the state finals.
