50 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic Vol. 1 No. 43 Thursday, Oct. 27, 1966

State 4-H Club project winners from Benton County were named this week by C.A. Vines, director of the Arkansas Agricultur­al Extension Service. Winners included J.C. Beaver, Pea Ridge 4-H, dairy. J.C., 19, is the son of Mr. and Mr. R.J. Beaver and has been in the dairying business for a number of years. He has taken dairy as a project for seven years and now has an operation with 30 head of registered Holstein cattle.

An ad from White’s, owned by John Easley, advertised a 16-inch bicycle for sale for $18 and a sturdy steel wagon for sale for $12.

The Pea Ridge PTA will hold their annual fund raising carnival at the school gym Saturday, Oct. 29. Proceeds will go to the school. The court includes Gary Hardy, king, and Jane Wardlaw, queen, 12th grade; and Mike Dutton, king, and Linda Boatman, queen, 11th grade.

40 Years Ago Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene Vol. 11 No. 43 Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1976

Pea Ridge and Little Flock voters have a lot of decisions to make at the polls Tuesday. In Garfield the incumbent aldermen and recordertr­easurer have filed for reelection with no opposition. In Pea Ridge, three council positions are contested with only one incumbent, Darryle Greene, unopposed. Candidates are Dean Messer, Chuck Hazelton and Harrison Brown running for Ward 1, Position 2; Lee Otis Hall and Edward McCrary running for Ward 2, position 1; and Carlos Lee and Bobby King running for Ward 2, position 2.

The annual Pea Ridge School Carnival will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, in the elementary school yard according to Mrs. Beverly Morrison, PTA president.

The Pea Ridge School at its monthly meeting Monday night adopted a strict policy to help deal with excessive rowdiness on school buses. Superinten­dent Roy Roe reported that fights had been occurring on some buses and that the bus drivers involved had been unable to control the situation in some cases.

There was good news and bad news in Pea Ridge football last week. The good news was that the senior Blackhawks revived some of the winning consistenc­y Friday night which they had displayed early in the season taking a solid 19-6 win over Mountanbur­g. The bad news was the Junior ’Hawks lost 12-8 at the hands of Green Forest, spoiling their perfect season mark and ending a six-game winning streak.

Sam Walton, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Pea Ridge announced this week the appointmen­t of John Easley as vice president and loan officer and Rick Buck as president.

30 Years Ago Pea Ridge Country Times Vol. 21 No. 43 Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1986

The Pea Ridge Police Department issued 21 citations during the past eek, according to Marshal Hugh Turner. Deputy Roger Harris arrested a 25-year-old man for excessive speed, DWI, implied consent and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana).

With activities centered on the Pea Ridge School grounds at Pea Ridge’s main intersecti­on, Battlefiel­d Day 1986 drew crowds that spilled over the contest and exhibit areas all day. Chairman Mary Rogers said things went very well.

Officers named for the Associated Milk Producers were Jim Griffin, J.C. Beaver, Ralph Shrader, Harry Palmer and John Adams. Beaver, Shrader and Palmer are from Pea Ridge.

20 Years Ago The TIMES of Northeast Benton County Vol. 31 No. 43 Thursday, Oct. 24, 1996

The Pea Ridge City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance made on the Planning Commission’s recommenda­tion to rezone Weston Street from agricultur­al to multi-family dwellings. Bob DuBois is considerin­g the purchase of four acres on Weston Street belonging to Dave Hemphill. DuBois told the council he plans to put 32 four-plex apartments on the property with storage units along the back.

The Northeast Benton County Fire Department in Garfield has received a fire boat from the U.S. Forestry Service. It will be used in the NEBCO waterfront area to pump water from the lake to fires or to tankers reloading after firefighti­ng.

The telephone party line in Garfield and Gateway is history. GTE crews have completed installati­on of one-party service to all customers in the two exchanges at a cost of about $1.2 million, according to Mack Shook, GTE manager.

Jim Cheek was grand marshal of the Pea Ridge Homecoming Parade. Queen was Mitzi Musteen and escorts were Billy Morgan and Jared Harp. The Blackhawks were victorious in the football game against Johnson County Westside 30-12.

10 Years Ago The TIMES of Northeast Benton County Vol. 41 No. 43 Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006

Controvers­y arose at last week’s City Council meeting. Questionin­g whether a proposed city ordinance should require a minimum house size, councilman Jerry Burton initiated a lengthy discussion resulting in Mayor Jackie Crabtree breaking two tie votes. The issue was an ordinance allowing Planned Unit Developmen­ts (PUDs).

Pea Ridge High School Homecoming attendants will be Alex Wilkerson and Reese Green; maids are Kristen Mead, Kayla Bloxham, Chessica Rizley, Ashley Martfeld, Heather Marlow, Nicole Talburt and Rosalia Palmerin.

Twenty years after graduating from Pea Ridge High School and returning to her homeland, Gudny Hjaltadott­ir brought her husband and memories to visit Gene and Shirley Aubrey and their three daughters, Angela, Kari and Janae. Hjaltadott­ir was an exchange student in 1986 and lived with the Aubrey family.

A love of art led Mollie Ragland, daughter of David and Sherrie Ragland, to major in art at Ouachita Baptist University and travel across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe to the great art museums of the world. Ragland is a 2002 graduate of Pea Ridge High School.tion major.
