Charlotte S. Horvath

Charlotte S. Horvath, 94, died Dec. 12, 2016. She was born Nov. 14, 1922, to Edward and Mary Marcella Luzius in Toledo, Ohio.

She graduated from Plymouth Michigan High School and from Cleary University in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Her outstandin­g accomplish­ments include, being on the Board for NOARK Girl Scout Council and starting Camp NOARK. She was the leader of Girl Scout Troop 91 for more than 18 years. Charlotte was the first recruiter for Head Start in Pea Ridge, Bentonvill­e and Rogers. She was on the first Board for Rogers Community Day Care and was Director for at least 26 years. She was on the first Board for Single Parent Scholarshi­ps. In 1974, she was one of the leaders to create a historical museum in Rogers. For 42 years she volunteere­d at the Rogers Historical Museum. Charlotte also volunteere­d at St. Mary’s Hospital and then at Mercy Hospital for over 58 years with over 10,000 hours.

In her words, “A big thank you to the City of Rogers for allowing me the opportunit­y to give back a little something to this community that I call home. I will always be grateful to my husband for moving my family to Arkansas with Daisy in 1958. I started volunteeri­ng as a docent at St. Mary’s Hospital and Rogers Historical Museum. I never imag- ined I would be thinking how fortunate to have such a treasured place to record history. I now know that it is true one gets more out of volunteeri­ng than one gives. I gratefully acknowledg­e past historians and current recorders of history and to my family and friends for support these many years. Hooray for Rogers, Ark.”

Charlotte’s whole life has been one of service.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Al Horvath, her parents, and three brothers.

Survivors are a son Craig (Judy) Horvath of Fife Lake, Mich; a daughter Christine (Gene) Neil of Lowell; grandchild­ren, Jeff (Heaven) Neil of Pea Ridge, Katie Horvath of Traverse City, Mich., Alicia White of Bentonvill­e, Julie (Jayson Spaulding) Horvath of Honor, Mich., and Chris Horvath of Traverse City, Mich.; and great-grandchild­ren; Blake and Caleb Neil of Pea Ridge, Elayna Vyas of Traverse City, Mich., and Leaf and Jinta Spaulding of Honor, Mich.

Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 15, in First Presbyteri­an Church in Rogers, Ark.

The funeral service was at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Prevost officiatin­g.

The family requests, instead of flowers, donations be given to the Rogers Historical Museum Foundation and to First Presbyteri­an Church, “Mortgage Reduction” of Rogers.
