OBITUARY
Lela Altona Howell Spangler
Lela Altona Howell Spangler, 94, died June 5, 2017, in Frisco, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 7, 1923, in Treece, Kan., to Herman Gentry and Tona Pearl Henderson.
She spent the majority of her life in northwest Arkansas where she loved to spend Sundays attending Tucks Chapel Church and Pea Ridge Church of the Nazarene. She provided day care from her home for 40 years, caring for more than 500 area children. She described her service to the working parents of the community as “the happiest days of my life.”
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Ralph and Robert Henderson; two sisters, Mary Agnes King and Bonnie Woods; and her first and second husbands, Charles Howell and Alvan Spangler.
Survivors are one brother, Herbert Henderson and wife Mary Jo of Pea Ridge, Ark.; one son, Kenneth Howell and wife Debbie of Frisco, Texas; one grandson, Charles Howell and wife Cheryl of McKinney, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Howell and Wyatt Howell both of McKinney; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 16, in Sisco Funeral Chapel, Pea Ridge.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, in Sisco Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Buttram Chapel Cemetery.
