Drive through history

Ranger guided caravan tour of the Pea Ridge National Military Park battlefiel­d will be held every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday weekly from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Union Artillery demonstrat­ions

Learn the role artillery played in the Battle of Pea Ridge. The park will blank fire a reproducti­on Model 1841 6-pound gun behind the park visitor center. Programs are at 11 a.m., noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Programs last approximat­ely 20 minutes and are subject to weather.

Demonstrat­ion dates include: Saturday, Aug. 26; Saturday, Sept. 2 and 23; and Oct. 7 and 21.

Avoca Fire Dept. hosts chicken dinner

AVOCA — The annual chicken dinner is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in Avoca City Park. There will be one free dinner per person and donations will be accepted.

Labor Day Country Breakfast set

GARFIELD — The annual Labor Day Country Breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, in the community center Northeast Benton

County Volunteer FireEMS Station 1, U.S. Hwy. 62 and South Wimpy Jones Road.

Turkey Shoot slated

GARFIELD — The 24th annual NEBCO Turkey Shoot and Rib Cookout will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. There will be bingo, silent auction, buy-it-now area, kids shooting range and raffles all day long. Raffle tickets may be purchased in the NEBCO administra­tion office or from any NEBCO fireman or board member. The Turkey Shoot is held at NEBCO Station 1 on South Wimpy Jones Road.
