Chicken in the Ditch set

The Pea Ridge Band Boosters will host a Chicken in the Ditch and car wash fundraiser beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, on the Pea Ridge High School parking lot.

“The Chicken in the Ditch event has been a long-standing tradition in the Pea Ridge band program,” according to Stephanie Kotouc with the Pea Ridge Band Boosters. Chicken will be sold as long as it lasts. The car wash will last until about 3 p.m.

Music at firehouse slated

GARFIELD — Music at the Firehouse with The Black Oak Band will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 and 23, in the NEBCO Community Center, U.S. Hwy. 62 and South Wimpy Jones Road, Garfield. There is no cover or admission. Donations are appreciate­d with 100 percent going to NEBCO Fire-EMS.

Blessing ceremony scheduled

GARFIELD — A Blessing Ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at Lost Bridge South campground boat ramp by NEBCO Fire-EMS. Following the ceremony, there will be a demonstrat­ion of the boat.

Park plans owl prowl

Pea Ridge National Military Park will host an Owl Prowl on at 8:15 p.m. Sept. 16. Participan­ts should meet at the visitor’s center, six miles east of Pea Ridge on U.S. Hwy. 62.

Jessie Ballard, park guide, will talk about the native owls of northwest Arkansas. Additional­ly, she will discuss the five senses of owls and how they are different from humans. Once it is dark, participan­ts will also have their chance to call in Barred owls.

The program will last approximat­ely one hour. Participan­ts should bring a flashlight.

Park plans sunset cruises

Sunset cruises on Beaver Lake will be hosted by Hobbs State Park Conservati­on Area beginning Thursday.

The cruises, which end Oct. 29, depart from Rocky Branch marina and are aboard pontoon boats. Other dates this month are: Sunday, Sept. 14, Sept. 17, Sept. 21 and Sept. 24.

October dates are: Oct. 5, 12, 15, 19, 26 and 29.

Departure times vary. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Adults are $10 and children 6-12 $5, plus tax.

Avoca Fire Dept. hosts chicken dinner

AVOCA — The annual chicken dinner is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in Avoca City Park. There will be one free dinner per person and donations will be accepted.
