Turkey Shoot slated
GARFIELD — The 24th annual NEBCO Fire-EMS Turkey Shoot, Raffle, Rib Cookout & Volunteer Firefighter Appreciation Day is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.
In addition to the turkey shoot, there will be a silent auction, bingo, archery contest, kids BB gun shoot, buy-it-now area and all-day raffles. Take an up-close and personal look at a fire truck, rescue unit and ambulance, on display with NEBCO personnel there to answer questions.
The baby back rib lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.
Artillery program scheduled
Pea Ridge National Military Park will conduct Civil War artillery programs on Saturday, Oct. 7. The artillery demonstrations are scheduled for 11 a.m., noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. behind the park visitor center. Pea Ridge NMP will be conducting these programs throughout the early fall. There is a schedule on the website at www.nps.gov/ peri.
Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves the site of and commemorates the March 1862 Civil War battle that helped Union forces maintain control of Missouri. The park is located six miles east of Pea Ridge on U.S. Hwy. 62.
The Pea Ridge Collection: Battle Artwork of Andy Thomas
There will be a presentation by Richmond Culp on the battle artwork by artist Andy Thomas. This program will discuss the artist and how he brought the battle to life on canvas. These artworks will be brought to life with descriptions of the actual events as depicted in Thomas’s art. The program will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, in the park visitor center. Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves and commemorates the March 1862 Civil War battle that helped Union forces maintain physical and political control of the state of Missouri. Administered by the National Park Service, the 4,300-acre battlefield is located six miles east of Pea Ridge, just off of U.S. Hwy. 62.
