Gladys Dean Gaffield

Gladys Dean Gaffield, 70, died in Pea Ridge, Ark., on Oct. 11, 2017. She was born July 10, 1947, in Siloam Springs to Virgil and Gladys Fay (Halley) Forsythe.

She was a lifelong resident of Bentonvill­e. She worked in factories and was a truck driver. She enjoyed riding motorcycle­s and making funny comments. She was a fun loving person who generally enjoyed life.

She was preceded in death by both parents.

Survivors are her daughter, Tammy Harris of Pea Ridge, Ark; grandson, Bobby Sligar; great grandchild­ren, Kayla and Jake Sligar and Cory Woodcock; and step-grandchild­ren, Jackie and Lizzy.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonvill­e, Ark.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, in the Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial followed in Bentonvill­e City Cemetery.

John ‘Jack’ Douglas Hayes

John (Jack) Douglas Hayes, 83, of Pea Ridge, Ark., died Oct. 12, 2017, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e, Ark. He was born on Sept. 15, 1934, in San Mateo, Calif., to James C. and Mary S. (Caetano) Hayes.

He was preceded in death by both parents and his wife, Julia N. (Schomaker/Pinckney) Hayes.

Survivors are his brother, James (Nancy) Hayes; sister, Mary Ann (William) Lawless; two sons, Michael Schomaker (Andrea) of Garfield, Ark, and Eric Schomaker (Sherry) of Alpine, Utah; nine grandchild­ren; and 27 greatgrand­children.

Interment will be at the VA National Cemetery in Fayettevil­le, Ark., with no service conducted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Autumn Place Home, Pea Ridge, Ark.

Michael Noel McDaniel

Michael Noel McDaniel, 61, of Holdenvill­e, Okla., died Oct. 5, 2017. He was the first of five children born in Cozad, Neb., Jan. 30, 1956, to Denton Noel McDaniel and Diane Kay Koch McDaniel.

He graduated in 1974 from Decatur Community High School and attended school at Manhattan Christian College. He married Cindy Mae Elaine Notbusch on May 5, 1979.

He had a kind heart and generous soul. Many memories of him include playing cards or other board games to which he welcomed all ages to play along. His presence will be greatly missed.

Survivors are his parents; his wife, Cindy, of the home; children, Amber, Crystal, Heather, Joshua and Michael; brothers, Jim McDaniel and wife Kerry and Bob McDaniel and wife Maureen; sisters, Linda Washington and husband Brian and Janet Tway and husband Blaine; and four grandchild­ren, Andy, Grace, Emma and Jon.

Service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at New Prospect Church in Garfield.

Arrangemen­ts weare with Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Burial was in Bayless Cemetery.

There was no visitation scheduled.

Harold Eldon ‘Smitty’ Smith

Harold Eldon Smith, ‘Smitty,’ 76, of Elk Bend (Salmon),

Idaho, died

Oct. 8, 2017, at his home.

He was born

Oct. 19, 1940, the twin of

Elaine to

Ernest and Esther (Polsley) Smith in Clarinda, Iowa.

Ernest and Esther Smith had eight children of whom Harold was the youngest. He grew up in Clarinda and Greeley, Colo., where he graduated from High School in 1959. He joined the USMC on July 4, 1959, and served in the 1st, 3rd and 5th division during Vietnam. He received an Honorable discharge on May 31, 1963, from the USMC. On Jan. 24, 1964, he enlisted into the Navy where he was a Field Medical Corpsman until his retirement in 1980.

He was united in marriage from 1964-1990 to Caren Swalm and together they had two children: Catherine and Eric. They lived in Japan for a short period while he was in the Navy.

He met Linda Rose Penton in Rogers, Ark., in 1990. They were married on Nov. 9, 1992, in Greeley, Colo., and lived in Rogers for several years. In 2001, they purchased their home in Elk Bend, Idaho. In 2002, Linda retired and the two moved to Elk Bend permanentl­y.

He enjoyed woodworkin­g, tinkering in his shop, fishing, gambling and venturing around the countrysid­e to see all the beautiful lakes and streams of Idaho. Harold also enjoyed visiting the bases in the San Diego, Calif., area and spending time along the ocean.

He was preceded in death by parents; brothers Lyle Smith, Jim Smith, John Smith and Lynn Smith; sisters, Doris Overdick and Ethel Schlotthau­er; and stepson Marvin Penny.

Survivors are his wife Linda Smith of Elk Bend (Salmon), Idaho; his cocker spaniel Misty; children, Catherine Smith of Wichita, Kan., and Eric and his wife Shawn Smith of Centerton, Ark.; step-sons, Shane Penny and Richard Penny of Garfield, Ark.; 11 grandchild­ren, Nicholas Lawrence of Wichita, Kan., Nicole Lawrence of Wichita, Kan., Hannah Smith of Centerton, Ark., Josh Hartsock of Ozark, Ark., Erica (Aaron) Roughton of Centerton, Ark., Amanda (Kevin) Nikel of Rogers, Ark., Megan (James) Bowdston of Rogers, Ark., Cole (Holly) Penny of San Diego, Calif., Jeromy Penny of Washburn, Mo., Jacob Penny of Washburn, Mo., Tyler Penny of Rogers, Ark., Gavin Penny of Garfield, Ark., and Lindsay Webker of Washburn, Mo.; eight great-grandchild­ren; twin sister, Elaine Adcock of Des Moines, Iowa; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Fly of Washburn, Mo.

Inurnment and Military Honors will be in the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery in Fayettevil­le, Ark.

Arrangemen­ts were under the direction and care of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon, Idaho.
