The TIMES of Northeast Benton County, Inc. has been sold to Freeman Newspapers, Inc., effective today, publisher MaryLouise Beisner said this morning. “Deciding to sell The TIMES has not been easy,” she said. “Our nine years of publishing it have been good ones, and we are grateful to all of our readers and advertisers. But we are confident that Mike and Barbara Freeman will love the paper and the people of our area as we have done. The TIMES is passing into good hands.” The owners of Freeman Newspapers, Inc., a new corporation based in Pea Ridge, are members of a family long experienced in the newspaper business. Mike Freeman, who will assume the titles of editor and publisher of the TIMES, and his wife Barbara, will operate the newspaper. Mrs. Freeman will be advertising manager. “We are committed to continuing the high professional standards maintained by Mrs. Beisner, her son Cal, and her late husband Jack,” he said. “High quality is something not often found these days and it is one reason we have chose The TIMES as the focus of our professional energies and Pea Ridge as our home for many years to come, God willing.”

Councilmen were presented with the list of properties at last month’s meeting and agreed to pay the assessed values for easements, but the mayor told them there were still property owners who would not agree to sell.
