Blackhawk students and athletes have been successful this past year with a myriad of activities and sports including the opening of a small business on campus, choir members named to the honors choir, band going to state and basketball, baseball, softball, track, cross country, golf, volleyball and football wins.

Jan. 11

The Nest — a small shop on the Pea Ridge High School campus — is open. A ribbon cutting was held at 12:30 p.m. Monday and students stopped by for a cup of coffee and to browse through the apparel. N.E.S.T. is an acronym for Nothing Ever Stops This and is the name of the student section at athletic events. There are official N.E.S.T. T-shirts for sale in the store and are the “official shirts for the student section,” Young said.

WEST FORK — The Pea Ridge boys Blackhawks built a defensive wall around their basket to help them capture their first ever 4A Regional Championsh­ip at West Fork in 2017. The ’Hawks cruised by West Fork in the opening round 62-34, blew past Subiaco 61-48 in the semifinals before crushing rival Huntsville 54-37 in the final. The win earned Pea Ridge its first Region title and it’s first No. 1 seed in a state tournament, giving them a first round bye into the quarterfin­als. The Blackhawks defeated Robinson 64-52 March 2, then defeated Pottsville 63-54 in the 4A semifinals March 4. The Blackhawks lost 59-51 to Baptist Prep Friday, March 10, in a valiantly fought contest, ending the season with second place in state.

Head Blackhawk baseball coach John E. King led the team to his 500th win as the Blackhawks defeated Gentry 6-1.

Aug. 23

Making real events a teaching opportunit­y, teachers at Pea Ridge schools used the Aug. 21 solar eclipse as a lesson.

“We’re fortunate to have the opportunit­y to view this with our students and faculty,” PRHS principal Charley Clark said. “Our science department has discussed and taught lessons. This event was pretty rare.”

Blackhawk Kately Swope finished in the Top 10 at the Girls 4A State Golf Tournament in Maumelle.

Oct. 25

The Lady Blackhawks’ thirdplace finish in the Northwest 4A Regional earned them a trip to the Arkansas 4A State Championsh­ip Tournament this week in Batesville.

Pea Ridge became the last 4A-1 team to punch a ticket to state with a 25-16,25-13,25-9 sweep of Gravette in the district tournamen at Lincon Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Nov. 1

The Pea Ridge Blackhawk Marching Band was headed to Little Rock Monday for its first trip to state competitio­n.

The Blackhawk footbal team claimed a No. 1 seed in the upcoming 4A state playoffs by running past the Huntsville Eagles 56-28. The victory impoved the ’Hawks’

record to 9-0 and clinched at least a share of the 1-4A league championsh­ip.

Nov. 8

The Lady Blackhawks track team used a strong 1-2-3 finish to power their way to fourth place overall at the 2017 state Cross Country Championsh­ips in Hot Springs with the boys taking fifth place. Blackhawks, Adelina Means, Harmony Reynolds, Shaed Cates and Will Feemster earned All-State Honors.

Nov. 22

The Pea Ridge Band’s marching band won first place in its class and was the top scoring band in all categories.

Blackhawk Choir members Sadie Grigg and Ashley Hansen were named to the All-State Choir.
