Violet Vivian Horton

Violet Vivian Horton, 98, died Saturday, Dec.

23, 2017, in Oklahoma

City, Okla.

She was born

Oct. 16, 1919, in Washburn,

Mo., to Edward Oscar and Mollie Ethel (Wilson) Horton.

She moved to Springdale, Ark., in 1930 and graduated from Springdale High School in 1936. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics at the University of Arkansas in 1940. Upon graduation, she became head of the Home Economics Department at Fort Smith, Ark., Junior High and taught home economics for three years. During that time, she met William Henry (Bill) Horton, who also taught at Fort Smith Junior High School.

After Bill enlisted in the Army in 1943, she moved back to Springdale, Ark., and was employed as bookkeeper for Jeff D. Brown’s Electric Hatchery.

She and Bill were married in Springdale in 1945 upon his return from World War II. She became bookkeeper for the Springdale News in 1963 and worked there until retirement in 1985. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women and United Methodist Circle past chairperso­n in Springdale. She volunteere­d at Altar Arts Committee, Bread of Life Outreach, and Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary.

In 2005 she moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon, Okla., to be near her daughter, Jennifer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1983, and by her parents.

Survivors are her daughter, Jennifer Horton Amberg, and son-in-law, Jacob Henry (Jack) Amberg IV, of Yukon; and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice.

A celebratio­n of her life was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, in the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon.

Interment was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, in Bluff Cemetery, Springdale.

David Allen Olson

David Allen Olson, 67, died in in Avoca, Ark., on Dec. 26, 2017. He was born on March 13, 1950, in McVille, N.D., to Frank and Margaret (Brekken) Olson.

He graduated from Tolna High School in 1968. He earned a degree in physical education from North Dakota State University. He ran his own cement finishing business, Dave’s Cement Finishing, in Grand Forks, N.D., before moving to northwest Arkansas in 1985. He was an avid Steelers fan and sports fanatic. He loved spending NFL Sundays with his boys and his dog, Steeler. He loved his family dearly and took so much pride in his grandkids. Many of you know him as the King of oneliners. Spending “Garage Wednesdays” with the guys was always something he looked forward to.

Survivors are his wife, Sally Olson; sons, Shawn and Elaine Olson of Gravette, Ark., and Sheldon and Nicole Olson of Bentonvill­e, Ark.; daughters, Shannon and Morgan Carlton of Springdale, Ark.; step-children, Melissa and Matt Ingram of Pea Ridge, Ark., Kassey and Josh Viator of Jennings, La., and Courtney and Sean Rhuda of Pea Ridge; sisters, Darlene Reinhart of McVille, N.D., and Deanna and Rick Ward of Billings, Mont.; and nine grandchild­ren.

Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, in the Rollins Funeral Chapel, Rogers.

Funeral service followed at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, in Rollins Funeral Chapel, Rogers.

Odeana Truesdell

Odeana Truesdell, 81, of Rogers, Ark., died Dec. 24,

2017, in her home. She was born Oct.

7, 1936, in Harrison, Ark., to William Earnest Hill and

Lucy Vera Hodges Hill.

She was owner and operator of Diamond T Trucking and a caregiver for Home Instead Senior Care. She enjoyed painting scenery and crafting.

She was a member of Pea Ridge Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby daughter, Ramona Navelle Morgan; three brothers, Robert, Leon, and Earl Hill; three sisters, Flora Goff, Clara Millian, and Viva Hudson; three nephews; and one niece.

Survivors are her husband, Fred Truesdell, whom she married Aug. 10, 1968; two sons, Kendall Morgan and partner Kelly Cortney of Cave Springs, Ark., and Freddie Truesdell of Bella Vista, Ark.; a stepson, Rex Truesdell of Missouri; two daughters, Debbie Clark of Dallas, Texas, and Rhonda Loper (Kenny) of Bentonvill­e, Ark.; a stepdaught­er, Loretta Jackson (Robert) of Oklahoma; 12 grandchild­ren; and 16 great-grandchild­ren.

Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, in the funeral home.

Service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, in Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge, Ark.

Burial was in Bayless Cemetery.
