Commission approves liquor store permit
Planning Commission members approved a conditional use permit request from Shane Perry to sell liquor at 193 Townsend Way.
There was no one from the public to speak against the request at the public hearing.
“I went through the process with the state,” Perry said. “They inspected, checked distances and issued conditional approval.”
Perry said he had purchased the building and is working on finishing construction of it to satisfy the conditions of the Arkansas Beverage Control Board.
“The building has been unoccupied for eight or nine years. We’ve had a carpenter in there to finish it … plumber, electrician start next week,” Perry said.
“It’s probably the only building
in town that meets the setbacks,” Tony Townsend, building official, said referring to the state-required distances from a school or church for liquor sales.
A rezoning request from Swope Engineering for 3.46 acres on the southeast corner of Weston Street and Pickens Road was pulled prior to the meeting.
In other business, planners:
• Approved a home occupation request from Isaac and Samantha Dave, 1055 Washburn Drive, for a business in their home. They told planners they sell commercial and residential flooring and only use their home for an office.
• Elected Chris Johnson as chairman of the Planning Commission and Donnie Ewald as vice chairman.
