Village on Curtis presented to city

Condominiums or town homes are being contemplated for the “Village on Curtis,” a development proposed by Barry R. Williams on seven acres on North Curtis Avenue.

“We wanted highway frontage to be commercial,” Nathan See, Street Department superintendent, said.

“The remaining is residential,” Williams said. “I plan for lease, clubhouse, swimming pool, with each unit having its own parking space, pedestrian walkways, two-stories.”

Williams said he plans to make sidewalk improvements on Carr and Curtis.

See and city building official Tony Townsend reminded Williams that all drainage was requested to be underground on this project.

“Water runs right through the middle of this,” Dr. Karen Sherman, planner, reminded Williams.

Williams said he wants to decommission a sewer line and reroute the lines around the perimeter of the project.

Two points made by Townsend and See to Williams were that the city does not allow curb cuts nor water running down the streets, as were in Williams’ initial plans.

Townsend said the city’s ordinance requires a minimum of 10 acres for a Planned Unit Development (PUD) and since this project is smaller than that, the developers want to present it is a large scale development.

The plan originally called for 72 units, but Williams said he’s looking at a number in the upper 50s. “We took out this building to accommodate the clubhouse and swimming pool.”

The plan is expected to be presented to the Planning Commission in March if all preliminary work is done, Townsend said.

“We would like it to be nice for sure,” Sherman said.
