The Pea Ridge Elementary School last week received a tentative rating of B, according to superintendent Andrew Widener. This is the first time in several years the school has risen above a C rating.
In Pea Ridge Justice Court Saturday, a Pea Ridge man, Clarence F. Haney, pleaded guilty to a charge of discharging a firearm, killing a dog and was assessed a fine of $5 and $5 in court costs.
Meeting in monthly session Thursday, the Pea Ridge City Council named Lee Otis Hall as alderman for Ward 2, Position 1, to replace Dow McDaniel, who moved outside the city limits.
Icy road conditions caused postponement of the trial of H.T. Buchanan Jr., of Farmington, who was accused of allegedly knocking down city marshal Al Koenke at the Pea Ridge Bowl.

Swearing in duties for the new Pea Ridge Library Board were handled by Justice of the Peace Jay Hale on Jan. 15. Taking the oath of office were Mabel Hardy, Judy Wilkerson, Penny Wimmer and Merlen Dryden, chairman.
Larry Morgan, McDonald County, Mo., school bus driver, was shot in the lower leg Jan. 17 by a man using a .357 Magnum hand gun. The incident is under investigation.
Pea Ridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire call at the residence of Jerry Bowman four miles northwest of Pea Ridge Jan. 16. The . home, owned by Everett Thomas, was heavily damaged. Fire Chief Sam Spivey said it is suspected the fire was caused by a wiring short in the blower on the fireplace. Firefighters responding included Jerry Collins, Doug McKinney, Eldon Jump, Argie Miller, Morris Cothran, Dennis Turner, Fred McKinney, Rick Whitaker, David Musteen and Ray Easley.

Pea Ridge city officials voted Monday to enter into an agreement with Lowell to establish a joint municipal court. According to Pea Ridge Judge Thurston Thompson, the ordinance approval is just one of several steps both cities must take in order to establish the court.
The council voted, with a tie-breaking vote by Mayor Mary Rogers, to hire Howard Slinkard as city attorney.

Pea Ridge has an 80-acre industrial site ready and waiting, says Mayor Jackie Crabtree. The Pea Ridge Industrial Development Commission, formed in 1994, has regrouped and is offering to businesses via the SWEPCO Economic Development website.
Pea Ridge will have a new 2000 model ambulance within 60 days if all goes well with the bidding process. The City Council authorized advertising for bids to purchase a new ambulance to replace the 1986 model.
Wanda Roe of Pea Ridge was one of four artists who were special guests at the grand opening of the Osage Terrace Senior apartments in Bentonville.
Parent of students at the Middle School received a letter from principal Anita Frevert explaining action taken when a threatening note written by two eighthgraders was found Friday. Frevert said the letter was necessary after she started receiving calls from parents regarding the incident which resulted in a 10-day suspension for both boys.

In a special meeting Monday night of the VAS Ambulance Corporation’s Finance Committee, the four members of the committee met to discuss the 30- by 40-foot building on Richard Hurd’s property in Gateway. The meeting was called by board vicechairman Cris Henry.
Stevie Grace St. John admired the crown which would soon be placed on the head of Lexy Paryzek, 2010 Colors Day queen. St. John, the daughter of Steve and Lisa St. John, and Caleb Gann, son of Rick and Jenny Gann, were the attendants for the Colors Day festivities Friday.
Brian Nave, former city council councilman and current Planning Commission member and vice president of the Pea Ridge Optimist Club, bid farewell to the community he and his family have called home for the past five years. He accepted a position as vice president of commercial lending at Arvest Bank, Van Buren.
City officials complained about recent city-wide tree trimming by contractors for SWEPCO. “It just looks tacky,” Nadine Telgemeier, City Council member, said. “We need to put it back to the beauty it was,” she said.
