Graduation preparedness is important

The time for the Class of 2020 to complete their courses and receive their diploma continues to draw nearer as the second semester of the school year is currently rolling full-steam ahead. While this upcoming time of transition may be both exciting and frightening for students and parents alike, one common theme stands to help navigate the many questions brought about by said transition, and that theme is preparedness.

Being prepared for graduation is incredibly important, and while students may believe preparation ends upon paying for their cap and gown, the process is rarely ever that simple.

For students, doing research is key. While a student may not know exactly what they want to do upon graduating, forming a plan acts as a healthy way to map out the future and reduce the stress of postgraduation life. Developing an active plan for what to do upon graduating should be a priority, as graduating without a plan may lead to complications in finding employment, training and apprenticeship, or seeking post-secondary education. With the due date of graduation set in May, the time is now to begin learning about the options a graduate has after that fateful day

For parents or guardians, there are a few different ways that may help your soon-to-be graduate. Helping the student remain mindful in their current work is incredibly important for graduation preparation. With the onset of “senioritis” and graduation drawing near, students may begin to lose motivation or let good behaviors, such as consistent attendance, slip, which may result in lowered grades. In this case, a plan for graduation has been depicted to increase attendance, and may even make the student excited for the future. Drafting up a simple to-do list with the student on objectives they would like to complete after graduating would, and would also generate opportunity for the parent or guardian to speak from experience and help guide the student to find said student’s success.

The graduation ceremony acts as the highest achievement in school, and understanding what needs to be done to prepare for, and after, this event is a pivotal aspect in tackling the challenges of daily life after completing high school. This being said, the Pea Ridge Blackhawks are always prepared for a challenge, and the Class of 2020 will be ready for whatever awaits them after their high school career concludes. •••
