New job is a perfect fit

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Mickie Ogburn is the secretary to the athletic, activities director, Charley Clark.

Although it’s her first year in this position, she has been a familiar face for six years in the Pea Ridge School District as she worked for three years in the prekindergarten program and for two years as registrar in Pea Ridge Primary School.

A native of Iowa, Ogburn moved to Arkansas when she was three years old. She attended Rogers schools from kindergarten through seventh grade, then moved to Gentry (Go, Pioneers!), and graduated from Gentry High School. She attended Northwest Arkansas Community College for four years, graduating with two associate degrees — as associate of arts and an associate of applied science in paralegal studies.

OgburnI worked in a local bank through college and enjoyed the job so much, she advanced in different departments and worked there for 10 years, before leaving to stay home with her two oldest sons, had her third son, then worked at a local Mothers Day Out for two years. She started working in the Pea Ridge pre-kindergarten in 2017.

“I secretly always wanted to be a teacher,” Ogburn said, “but didn’t think I would be any good at it. When my oldest started school I always knew I wanted to volunteer at his school. Then the job at the Pre-K came open, and my middle son had previously attended and I knew the teachers and the timing was just right for my family, and for me to start back to work and try something new, so I went for it!

“Working in the school system allows you to get to know your community and be able to contribute to your community, which is the future. My boys all play sports and we are out in the community a lot and we have gotten to meet a lot of different families,” she said.

“That love of sports led me to this job. The position was just a fit for me and my family. I’m excited to be here and work more with the PR community!”

Fun fact about Ogburn: “I played basketball and softball in high school. I also played the saxophone and was a color guard in the marching band and then played the baritone saxophone during concert season.”

“My husband, Michael, also works here in town, at Arvest, and we enjoy watching our three sons play various sports.”
